My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.
These were taken by a friend, so they arent the greatest quality. but ya get the idea.
FINE. This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
Made a post at a kiwi website for bikers (not this one) that I found in a book I was reading about motorcycling NZ and asked for someone to help answer some questions i had on riding here, etc as I was coming for 4 weeks on me own with my bike to see as much as possible and then heading to OZ for 6 months with my bike.
Of course this was BEFORE I knew how much y'all hated yanks and HD riders.
Anyway, got alot of responses to my post but 1 guy in paticular was really helpful and even mailed & emailed me maps, accomodation suggestions and lists of places to avoid, etc.
When I got to NZ I sent him an email asking if we could meet as I had a thank you gift to give him for all his helpful advise. (Some Triumph books & parts I knew he was having a hard time finding here)
We met, spent the next 3 weeks riding NZ together, and it was amazing. That was in Jan 2000. Decided to postpone the Oz trip and went back home.
In June 2000 he showed up in the states (damn was THAT a surprise when I opened the door and found him there!!) asking me to come back to NZ. Which I did.
In 2001 my Mom was diagnosed as terminal and He came stateside with me so I could be close to Mom. We drove an 18 wheeler across the states for 18 months together for $$ while there and we got married in Vegas Feb 2002. Came back to NZ in 2002 and now live in Hamilton and are more in lust...errrr, love than ever!
With the exception of the constant negative talk of yanks and Harley Riders, I've started to like it here in NZ.
He still hates HD's and I've grown to appreciate fine British bikes, so it works for us and I never have to worry about him taking my HD for a ride and I've learned to wrench on his Triumph so it all works.
Just wish there wasn't so much yankee bashing. I know it's REAL easy, but sometimes it just is a bit much. We're not ALL like so many seem to think.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ...
"WOW!! WHAT A RIDE!"
As a fairly vocal "what the fsck is going on in the merkins' heads" sort, I don't think it generally consists of unfair stereotyping. You'll probably find that many 'Yank bashing' Kiwis are only commenting on their personal experiences with natives of your land of origin.Originally Posted by celticyankee

Love the States, got married in Vegas myself and think HDs are o.k., (got one myself) so don't fret on that yank-bashing" shit you've heard, most of the people that are into that kind of talk ain't worth listening to anyway![]()
Winding up drongos, foil hat wearers and over sensitive KBers for over 14,000 posts...........![]()

Wow what a neat hook up story, had my interest the whole way through.Originally Posted by celticyankee

Thats my opinion anyway.

Oh they will... once you make tiping compulsary. Initailly tipping sounds bad for the customers but in the long run, it works out pretty good. The money flow ends up being the same except for the service which gets boosted to higher levels.Originally Posted by KATWYN

There are some things I disagree with the American culture and there are some things that I disagree about the American Goverment.
Do I judge all Americans because of that? Nope... There are good folks and there are not so good folks every where and in every country around the world. I have met a lot of Americans and honestly, every single one of them have been super cool so far. A lot of good has come out of America as well as Bad. Sometimes we take the good for granted and spend too much time on just bitching about some crap that goes on.
If I have said something to offend you or your culture, I appologies.
I will still give the Yanks some shit if its regarding GWB. Them folks did ask for it when they voted for em though
As for HDs? I don't understand the choice but just as long as you are enjoying/loving what you do, who am I to comment on your ride?![]()
Yea thats a good point, MR I didn't think about that.Originally Posted by Motoracer

(thread hijack in progress) GWB was appointed by the Supreme Court. Gore got more votes. You really can't blame the general US voting public for the administration they ended up with.Originally Posted by Motoracer

After getting a bike and talking with friends about bikes, most of them non riders, I hear a bit of HD bashing, or more a limit of there capabilities. The non riders seem to be the more opioninated about disliking HD's, where as the riders are inclined to say that they would prefer xxxx bike over a harley. Likewise I'd prefer a sports style bike to a cruser but if it was a HD vs no bike, I'd be long gone on a long ride on the Harley.
As Orson Wells put it, "Four wheels good, Two wheels better"![]()
Speed limits are just a suggestion, like pants.
methinks most of the anti US sentiment is due to single minded foreign policies, and projection of an air of indifference to the rest of the world. May not be true for all yanks, but about half of the ones I have met so far fit that stereotype in some way. Unfortunately it doesnt bode well for impressions when a single person makes decisions that impact negatively on so many![]()
Ya know ive always said that if kiwi's got payed on a performance based structure we would be a shit load more productive.Originally Posted by Motoracer
