You realise that this is a New Zealand based web site right?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
Yeah, but generally what happens here ends up happenning there. Anyway, it's a "head's up" as to what's going on over here. How can Kiwi's compete if they don't know what the competition is up to?
It'll also be interesting to see whether such commitment is given to young kiwi racers from Honda in NZ. You can always point out the article and say "Well, how about it? You're doing it for the Aussies".
Well we were to busy arguing as per
It what I have said from the get go ,,, You need a clear path with skills learnt at each step , with a small financial step between each class
here we have pocket bikes ( 3 years to 6years old ) That Nsr50/100 thing from honda ( starting to get pro now ~ )
Rs 125 / rs250 here it splits into the differing classes , but if you are ontrack to be a rossi then its Rs250
then either ( the cheapest way is St600 ~ )
or Japan JSB
the financial steps are quite affordable , eg if I was to sell my 1991 cr250 , and add another 50 000 yen I could buy a tail end charlie 2001 St600 Cbr600
Aussie have it sorted
well done

"Look, Madame, where we live, look how we live ... look at the life we have...The Republic has forgotten us."
It doesn't happen like that at all. Honda have repeatedly said they're not bringing the CBR150 to NZ, even when a clear challenge in the Suzuki FXR150 was chucked down by Suzuki.
Plus MNZ seems to be mostly interested in promoting dirt racing becaase that almost organises itself in NZ.

Meh. They need to get 125GP going bigger.
It won't take a good rider very long to reach the limits of a CBR150. After all, they are just a crappy little taiwanese Commuter bike, A bit like the FXR is here!!
On a 125GP bike, there is sooo much untapped potential, and they really do show who is a good rider and who isn't, because you have to go alot further to get to the limit. And it takes skill to get to that limit.

I suggest you all look at what is happening in the Sth Island with the 150 class for junior development, I watched 35 bikes take to the grid yesterday at Ruapuna, and there is some seriously good up and coming tallent in amongst them
There was even a young girl from Auckland who got her arse down there for it
Dead right Shaun.
But Honda aren't going to bring the CBR150 to small markets like ours until the last two stroke is gone. They know they'd get caned and Honda aren't making any two strokes from next year (or maybe 2008) on.

Yep, there are some good riders on the 150s
I've done the 150 thing, both streetstock and Buckets. They were awesome fun..... Awesome awesome awesome.
But, They are still a crappy street bike. Yes, Yes they are.
I would love to see 125s grow (mostly because there aint enough at the moment, So there isn't much close racing, In the Vic series anyways)
The way i see is, some of NZs best Young racers have come from 125s. They seem to be a good stepping stone.
I can't wait to get off crappy street bikes and onto a real race bike!!
I'd definitely be up for one of those CBR150's - but like you said, just to hack about and race on. On the road, I'd need something that goes up hills. Still, those DOHC 150 singles go alright, and it's water-cooled right? Unlike the air-cooled FXR (er... I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong).
Keep it rubber-side down...
Yep CBR = water cooled
FXR = oil cooled.
FXR is slightly larger than the CBR.
Good luck finding a CBR in NZ aswell![]()
I think its a case of the Aussies copying what goes on here. The Street stock class in the SI has a pool of over 50 bikes to draw on to make a big grid. All RG150s (a couple of KR150s as well)it would be a long time before Honda get a look in.
Interesting the price thats NZ$8200 you could get 5 or 6 RG150's on the track for that money.
All the adspeak in the article is how brilliant the honda is with this that and the other techno baggage on board, it dosent make any difference if all the other bikes in the field are the same.
I suppose they are eligible as buckets even if a bit pricey
I think it's a brilliant idea for beginners to get FAIR and equal racing opportunity. But as other's have said, the price tag does seem a little steep for what is essentially a $3000 bike.
A 150 4 stroke series for beginners would be great, if they were still selling 150cc 4 stroke bikes here. I actually emailed Honda NZ a few months ago to see if they were bringing the CBR150 over, sounded like they hadn't decided.

Posted this in July.......![]()
That article is from the October issue of Cycle Torque here in OZ. I guess it's after Honda announced the actual cost of the racing CBR150's.
