    The facts about Inline Four

    From Mrs In-line Four

For everybody who has sent messages - thank you - we really are grateful for all your kind (and otherwise words)

Inline Four was doing what he loved best yesterday morning - racing along the beach at Oakura doing Mach 2 (well 60-70kms) on his new Motorcross bike. He hit a rock under the sand (again!!! having not learned from his trip to Kaitaia) and somersaulted over the handlebars landing on the back of his head with his body following. Imagine a balloon between two bricks and that is what happened to his spine. This is what happened to his T5,6 &7 and the shards from his T6 sliced straight through his spinal cord.

He got a ride on the TET helicopter and then from ICU we both flew down to ChCh General on the Flying Doctor service. He had to be immobilised to prevent further injury. In the next week or so once he is physically stable and his ribs have healed he has to have an operation on his spine to put in plates and wires etc to make sure that when he learns to sit up his back will not collapse further

Inline four did not lose consciousness and has no head injuries but he is paralysed and will be in Burwood until at least Easter next year. So all you kiwibikers in Chch it would be great if you can make contact with him over the coming months as I have to go back up to work on Monday and will only be able to get down every two-three weeks.

We have a long road ahead of us and I am sure once he is upright again he will be back online again. So in the mean time keep sending your messages and I will get them all to him or send him cards, notes etc to the hospital. If you want to make contact and don't know his name it is John Sandford

Once again keep in touch it will mean a lot to him. mrs Inline Four

I'm horrified to hear that and can only wish you and him all the best. I will do my best to get down there before Christmas.

    My Regards

I called Liz not long ago to see how things were... Upon hearing.. I did have to cut conversation short... I can't take it all in right now...

Johns always been there for me when I've needed someone to talk to.. Been through some rough times as of late... And he's always been a good ear..I finally had the opportunity to meet John not long ago... And I'm absolutely.... I'm speechless.. I don't know what to say.. Or do.. I really don't.....

EDIT: If you need any help with anything.. Please let me know.. I know I'm a fair way away... But if I can help I will...

Sad news......however, be positive because there is a lot of help available and I know it is early days but make sure you hassle ACC for everything you can get...I talk from experience having a disabled Daughter....you have to get in early because this in itself is a long road.....I know this may be the last thing on your mind right now but it all starts now and and it will make InLines road smoother.

We are stunned and don't know what to say. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sandfords and especially John.

Bugger, met him las Saturday when he bought my QM 1 piece, was bouncing around like a puppy, was so excited about how his life had just changed and his new van and a garage full of toys to play with ....

Hope all goes well for him.
