    Wairarapa Sprints - 24/9/06 and 26/11/06

Cliffhanger promotions proudly presents the annual Wairarapa Motorcycle Sprints.

These have been held for several years now - the revenue raised is used to fund the annual Cliffhanger Hillclimb held in Gladstone (East of Carterton). Cliffhanger Promotions would also like to purchase our own telemetry apparatus for accurate timings, which isn't cheap.

The event location is different this year and will be held at Dalefield Road, Carterton. The sprints will be run in a West - East direction.

Another change this year is the requirement for all entrants to have a race licence, in accordance with Motorcycling New Zealand Rules. This has mean't an increase in the entry cost, as a 'day race licence' is an additional $15.

Entrants already holding an MNZ race licence will not have to pay the additional $15.

Due to the price increase, Cliffhanger Promotions have been actively seeking sponsors for the event, in order to offer prizes for various categories. The specific prize categories are yet to be determined.

So far the response for sponsorship has been really great, and offers have already been received from Quasimoto Accessories, Diarbi Accessories (via Motormart), TSS Motorcycles, Honda, Pirelli, Forbes and Davies and we are hoping that even more will provide there support. Special thanks to Limbimtimwim and Skelstar for kindly offering to construct a new and improved website - watch this space for a likely 'online' date.

We would particularly like to encourage smaller bikes and younger riders to enter, as this could be a stepping stone to entry into road racing.

The entry form and disclaimer are currently in draft form only, but we hope to have this finalised and posted in here and at local bike shops over the next week or two.

Any questions, feel free to ask. All enquiries regarding minimum protective gear should be directed to Garry Allbrett - 06 379 8081

Up to 20 marshalls are desired, in order to have a few extras for relieving also. We would be grateful for any names and contact numbers of people able to assist with marshalling.

Marshalls would be required to be on site at 8.00am on each day of the sprints.

Please indicate if you are able to assist with marshalling by listing your name and contact phone number here. Would any of your friends or family be able to assist ?

We need your support to make this event happen.

For some reason I cannot post attachments but will get Deano to post the flyer soon.

    Sounds good, coupla questions:

    1. will i be allowed out without a backprotector and normal leather shoes? (Sharks, not steel capped)

    2. anything i need to know about aquiring a day race license?

other than that the only thing i have a problem with is the pricing, it'd be nice to have a >=250cc catogory in order to get us younger (read poorer) riders into it. though i do suppose on the flip side we have slower bikes and therefore take up more time

    Hi Wasp,

the pricing has been $30 in the past, so the under 600cc is actually cheaper, although a one day race licence is now required. Cliffhanger Promotions had no option but to pass on the race licence fee to entrants unfortunately.

    There will be prizes however.

A back protector is recommended but not required.

Leather boots 25cm high will be required as per MNZ Rule 8.3.1 but this is currently being clarified with MNZ, as is the possibly use of cordura pants and jackets.

A further update will be posted (edited) on the front page as info comes to hand.

    Cheers for that Cliffhanger promo.
Just curious. Is the new location better or worse i.e. longer run up for the flying? Must pop over soon as and find this mystery road.
Wonder if I can shave 36cc off the motor with a file and sneak under the 600 class

If you're leaving Carterton heading south, it's pretty much the last right before actually leaving Carterton.

That's stupid. Dalefield road is shit compared to the normal location. It's bumpy and has a million driveways.

I'm out. I'm not risking my neck on a road with residential properties.

Don't anybody DARE go speed testing down that road either. There's blind hump backed bridges, blind dips and a school down the end of it. I go down there a lot and it's normally coated in cow poo.

There'll be a large number of lifestylers bitching about the road closure and noise too.

    Just stupid.

I'm serious. It will create issues.

The past venue had one side road and NO driveways.

The daily stock movement on Dalefield road would beat the yearly stock movement figures for the East-West access road, and the East-West access road is MUCH better surfaced than Dalefield Road. Dalefield road is also narrower and the hazards are closer to the side of the road. There are usually sections of that road that are a brownish green from the baked on cow shit.

I think it's stupid. Just to make it easier access. All it will do is lift the negative profile of the event because of the type of people likely to be disadvantaged by the road closure.

East-West access road is also closer to Wellington Hospital by Helicopter than Dalefield Rd.

Shorter run up. With dips and hump back bridges.

Unless they are going to let you run past 4 side roads and a school at the finish.

Residents have already been approached and given the thumbs up.

There is at least one driveway at the East West access road. Admittedly, there are more on Dalefield Rd, hence the need for more marshalls.
