    WTF: Do ambos have radar?

Thrice recently I've had an ambulance approach from behind under lights while I'm stuck in traffic and my radar detector has hit the roof on Ka band.

Is this just a coincidence that there happened to be a cop in the very near vicinity out of eyesight, or do ambulances have radar in them for some reason unfathomable to me?

Dog whistles, brass knuckles, and mace... yup - they should carry those.

But a radar? Curious (unless there's equipment like the defibrithingimallator that sets it off?)

radars scan for the police radio frequency (amongst other things), ambo's use a similar band, so the radar picks that up

Not usually on Ka band. I think it's X or K band that gets set off by automatic doors and the like.

Maybe the ambos are in cahoots with the coppas helping to bust innocent speeders

    LOL... Sir you're having a heart attack - that's $59.95.

Would you like a kidney failure with that, we have them on special for $40, or we can run you over with this fine ambulance for a mere $75.00 + cleaning fee

I thought some radar detectors detected emergency vehicles, when they have lights and siren going?

No radars in ambos. Either a coincidence or the other equipment in them is causing a false alarm Remember also that highway patrol cars come in all shapes, sizes and colors

There is an expanded K band that has emergency service messages in it but it's not used in NZ.

X band and K band are both set off by door openers.

Stalker, as used by the bacon, are Ka band.

As far as I know it's the only band you need on in NZ, no point in shitting yourself everytime you go past Pak'N'Save.

Do the piggies use Ku band out here yet? I've had a couple of blasts Ku (not KY) on my detector.
