What new tyres please?

My mate and I are looking at buying some new tyres. I have a GSXR1100 and he has a Kawasaki 750S. We do a lot of riding on winding(sometimes wet) Central Otago roads(sometimes fast also). Everywhere I look I see Pirelli Diablos. Are these what we are looking for??

What are you looking for in a tyre?
Good milage? Super sticky? Cheap?

I personally reccomend Pilot Powers. Bloody good tyre for my style of riding. Im on my 3rd set now and they have not let me down yet.
I do know a few guys that have changed to the new Conti attacks and all seem happy with them.

Í'm running Conti Road Attacks on my Zed Zed R Eleven. if you ride hard in the twisties these tyres seem to chew out on the front under the weight. My mate on a ZX12 is a Diablo fan and will run nothing else. I am yet to try them but they are next on my list in the pursuit of the holy grail - Good stickability with mileage under the heavier 11.

I'd reccomend the conti's for the 750, awesome tyres while they last, heaps of guys/gals round here running them on lighter sprots bikes & loving them.

Diablos here and very happy.....the old TLs has a habit of chewing through rear tyres pretty fast but these seem to be lasting better than anything else..riding over to greymouth street racing in the hardest rain ive ever seen/ridden in i can testify to them being great in the wet as well.

Running Avon Azaro's on the ZX12 here and no complaints, Sticky for a sport tourer and last very well going to try a set of Viper Sports next though...

I am still happy with the Conti's......but this was an interesting reply i got on another site.

When I went to get some new rubber I was going to try the Conti's after your report Les but the tire guy wouldn't sell them to me. He said the the rear tire is brilliant and its made in Germany but the fronts are actually made in Korea and they delaminate and are shite. I know the guy and he says he'd love to sell more of the Conti's cause he gets more profit out of them but he just won't do it to people.

I ended up riding away with a new set of Pilot Powers and so far love the grip of them.

It has to be said i am never in much of a hurry,more a tourer watching the scenery go by.
I will try a set of Pilot Powers next.

Here is my front after last weekend.One side of the groove has been flattened....It does indeed say Made in Korea ..Will try running more pressure to see what happens.

Pilot Powers.......$550 a pait at Cycletreads.

I had the Sport on my SV but had to replace front which had plent of tread but had scollopped, whereas the Powers don't so I am gonna just replace the rear on Sunday.

Michelin claim good when cold but I reckon they take 10k or so to warm up but bloody good tyres and still got about 1,000 left and have done 9,000k so not bad when most of my riding is weekend blasts.

+1 and they wear remarkably even too, I have had other makes of tyres flat spot in the middle as I do a fair bit of riding 2up but the powers are the only ones that have kept a nice round profile..

Powers are my pick @ the moment but I think most sport tyres are pretty farken good. Back in the old days you were lucky if your tyres were made of rubber ( Yokohama 2 ply nylon)
