Last night here on OZ, it was reported on the Seven/Prime network that P&O have been dumping tonnes of old engine fuel oil and sludge all over Vanuatu. There were interviews with the locals and film coverage. In some places the sludge was three meters deep, and some was running down the hills towards rivers where the villagers swam. It was shocking to see the Pacific Star dumping this stuff. There was also an interview with a greenpeace representative deploring the practice.
Apparently they had permission, but the local authorities in Vanuatu had a different story. It was broadcast last night on the Today Tonight current affairs program. Strange thing is there is nothing relating to the story on the website. I couldn't find it, but perhaps soemone else will have better luck.
The place to look is here: http://www.seven.com.au/todaytonight/ . Maybe this was reported over there in NZ as well.
