    Isle of Man TT06

    Saturday, Practice Week

Practising for the 2006 Isle of Man TT began, on schedule, in sunny but blustery conditions on Saturday night with Guy Martin setting a scorching pace as the first rider to complete a lap.
(this is the dude who Shaun H. brought over in the summer)

One Isle of Man rider making his debut was Conor Cummins who recorded a 100 miles an hour lap on his first trip round the TT Course – 104.966 to be precise. He was to go even faster later in the practice at 108.751, which made him, comfortably, the fastest newcomer of the night – and all this on Conor’s 20th birthday!

    The night’s fastest laps were
TT Superbike: John McGuinness, Honda, 122.013; Ian Hutchinson, Kawasaki, 118.261; Guy Martin, Yamaha, 118.023.
TT Supersport: Ian Hutchinson, Kawasaki, 120.160; Adrian Archibald, Suzuki, 118.134; Bruce Anstey, Suzuki, 116.337.
TT Superstock: Bruce Anstey, Suzuki, 120.548; Guy Martin, Yamaha, 118.574; Jason Griffiths, Yamaha, 116.882.
    Sidecars: Dave Molyneux/Craig Hallam 112.934; Gary Bryan/Colin Hardman 104.688; Phil Dongworth/Stuart Castles 104.337.

    Yay! Go Bruce Anstey!!

I remember how he revolutionized the stoppie with his multi-coloured fluro wheels at Paeroa & Wangas.

    Monday, Practice Week

Monday night’s practice in the Isle of Man TT was held up for around an hour following a two-machine collision right at the start of the session.
It happened on the exit from Union Mills, on the Ballahutchin Straight – about three miles from the start - and involved Japanese star Jun Maeda and Seamus Greene from County Donegal.

"It's pointless looking impressive in the middle of Braddan Bridge if you're slow up the next straight. The same happens in Union Mills. I've seen loads of lads go hurtling into the top of Union Mills, they're all on the wrong side of the road, they struggle to change direction and, by the time they get to the Post Office, they're actually shutting the throttle when they should be driving from the Railway Inn. They should have the thing drawn up in the right bit of the road to be driving, feeding the throttle in because it's a long climb up the Ballahutchin." (Steve Hislop)

The practice was suspended while the road was cleared of debris and fuel, the solo session being re-started when this had been done. Riders were restricted to one lap and were followed by the sidecar competitors.

Superbikes: Martin Finnegan 121.457; Guy Martin, Yamaha, 121.006; Ian Lougher, Honda, 120.603.
TT Superstock: Adrian Archibald, Suzuki, 119.096; Ian Hutchinson, Kawasaki, 118.937; John McGuinness, Honda, 118.935.
TT Supersport: Guy Martin, Yamaha, 118.055; Ian Lougher, Honda, 117.568; Nigel Beattie, Yamaha, 115.483.
Sidecars: Dave Molyneux and Craig Hallam, Honda, 114.955; Phil Dongworth and Stuart Castles, Ireson Yamaha, 107.528; Nick Crowe and Darren Hope, Honda, 106.876.

Dave Molyneux and Craig Hallam - will anyone ever come near this pair?

I saw them hosing off the road today as I cam across to Douglas, the accident happened on essentially a straight bit of road after the hump leaving Union Mills, on the "inside", as much as there is one.... Haven't yet heard about the injuries, except for "concussion and multiple fractures". Sounds like they went along the road (luckily) rather than into the wall, as it is a 150+mph zone there.....

We were watching at Ballacraine at the time, and John McGuinness, and a few others, stopped to ask if the practice was being red-flagged. Pretty serious stuff, and none of the guys sounded very happy afterwards talking on the radio.....

Also on the first practice night, a sidecar crashed on May Hill, with the swinger, last I heard, being in critical condition. Two of the new travelling marshals also went down near Ballaugh, nothing major, but one went down on oil, and the other rode into his bike.... There are two brand-spanking Fireblades Honda wont be taking back......
Queiro voya todo Europa con mi moto.... pero no tengo suficiente tiempo o dinero.....

    Tuesday, Practice Week

Tuesday night’s practice session for the Isle of Man TT started off with the fastest lap of the week so far. Guy Martin took his Superbike Yamaha round in 18 minutes 14.58 seconds – an average speed of 124.09 miles an hour.

Martin’s second lap was even faster than his first, knocking five seconds off his earlier time and recording a speed of 124.717.

However, the best was still to come as McGuinness posted a lap of 18 minutes 9 seconds – or 125.267. Lougher and Hutchinson both increased their speeds to more than 123 miles an hour on their second circuit of the night - while Bruce Anstey was another 123 man, as was Jason Griffiths.

TT Superbike: John McGuinness, Honda, 125.267; Guy Martin, Yamaha, 124.717; Bruce Anstey, Suzuki, 123.906.

TT Superstock: Jason Griffiths, Yamaha, 123.382; Guy Martin, Yamaha, 123.234; John McGuinness, Honda, 121.534.
