You were correct all along. Points are, indeed, logged against the date of the offense. What form of penance would you like me to undertake for so rashly presuming to disagree?

I'm in a good mood now, too, because I just double-checked with the LTNZ and found out that my oldest points rolled off five days before the date of issue of my latest infringement notice, so I can pay that fine without cringing.

Might have to pop by a Lotto shop on the way home...

I've spent my whole driving career (only about 9 years mind you), sitting between 50-95 demerit points...I have never lost my license for some wierd reason. Everytime I get a ticket I seem to have dropped a few points a mere couple of weeks prior...its so fucking flukey.

Due to this I tend to keep a close on on when points are recorded etc, so next time I see those party lights come on behind me I know whether I can afford a few more points or not...

So to paraphrase....demerits are recorded against your licence from the date of infringement. But until you pay the fine (accept you are guilty) or contest in court and win, those demerits are only in a holding pattern. Pay (guilty) and they become firm. Contest (found guilty) they become firm plus you pay the original fine Plus you pay court costs of $130 PLUS you pay a lawyer $lots. OR contest (not guilty) points disappear, no fine, no court costs but you still pay the lawyer.

after 56 days the infingment automatically goes to a court hearing, and unless you turn up to contest it, you'll be convicted in abstentia, and the demerits will be loaded, you'll be fined, with court costs. if you start paying it off, no warrant will be issued, however if you fail to make good any payment, a fines warrant will subsequntly be issued, and you can be arrested (except on sundays) and taken straight to the fines counter for sorting out. if it's saturday afternoon, you could be held in the cells til monday

Why sell the bike and loose all that dosh? Spend the 6 months polishing it, or let Dover ride it. 6 months will be enough to get all the damage fixed.
