    Wiring vs Honda

    so I've got a bike
and a escort x50 radar detector
    and a handle bar mount
    and a garage

    that's where it ends

    no tools
    no electronics talent
no bike "pulling apart, putting back together" skills
    no idea really.

I don't want to cut the cig lighter power cable, as it would be useful in the car, is that a problem?
I have no idea, how/where to power the thing on the bike.

is there anything else I need to buy/get to get this thing mounted on the bike? (apart from a weather cover, which I will buy next pay day)

You start with a modem cable, the one with a clear palstic plug at one end, and a white phone plug at the other.

The 2 centre wires on the clear end are neded for the detector power, which one is +ve and which one is earth I can't remember, but you'll figure it out.

Basically, run the cable from the mount back to the fuse box and plug the +ve into a circuit that is switch via the ignition (fused side). Run the ground to a ground of course. Make sure the other wires will not touch each other. Best to keep this wire away from coils/plug leads and as short as practical, but don't be anal about it.

You'll need to splice on tails as the wires in the modem cable really aren't suitable for hooking up to the fuse box/earth.

Make sure you cable tie it all in place.
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.

You can get an alternative cable for the Escort so that you don't need to hack the coiled cable about. I keep that for my car and the alternative is permanently on the bike, then just follow Fatjim's advice. You can buy snap splicers to avoid soldering the connections at the fusebox end although I soldered mine in place to make a more permanent job of it. Are you going to use an earpierce or screamer to amplify the signal? You won't hear it too well over the wind noise otherwise, especially if you use the proper clear protective cover which is highly recommended.

earpiece .. sound I can deal with, as reverse polarity doesn't make things blow up .. however electricmacity is a different story ...

clear cover will be bought next week.

    so things I need
    1. rj11 plug
    2. metre or so of cable
    3. skill

    2 out of 3 ain't bad
