    First commercially-available diesel motorcycle launched

Dutch firm EVA Products has produced what they claim to be the world’s first commercially available diesel motorcycle. Although a number of military models exist, the Trackstar T-800CDI, which features an 800cc three cylinder Daimler Chrysler diesel engine - which generates a reported 150Nm of torque - is being sold to civilian buyers.

“This week we sold 15 bikes and production is on its way for the first 250 to 500 units that will be sold within the next 2 years.” Said E.V.A. CEO Erik Vegt “Unfortunately, requests on this bike will probably exceed the production level for some time to come as we have received more than 2000 purchase requests already.”

The engine comes with three pre-programmed ECU settings enabling it to be switched to run on 100% Pure Plant Oil (such as sunflower oil) or into a highly efficient but lower power diesel economy mode. 2.5 litres of sunflower oil will run the bike for 100kms – a considerable saving on fuel cost. But with a £12,000 price tag, it needs it.

Beat me to it! And it doesn't cost $30,000NZD either! Might be slow as a wet week, but incredibly cheap to run as a commuter!
