Had to deal with something like this last year. Take it from me - there is NO easy way, the best and cleanest (pun intended) way is to be blunt and to the point, no need to be insulting, just VERY matter of fact. Don't do it publically and don't tell other people you have done it, and reasonably person will be terribly embarrassed, so try not to make a big thing about and don't dwell on it.

SAS styles, get in, get the job done and get out - gas masks optional.

If they are a prick about it, then go to HR or boss, there is no excuse for BO in this day and age, especially if you work in an office with aircon and closed windows.

Don't dwell on it and gossip about it, short sharp shock does the trick. Leaving deodourant about and 'subtle' hints like that is only 'killing with kindness'.

Damn, I know exactly what you're talking about. I used to work with these indian people (don't mean to be racist but ...) and literally all of them smelled really really bad - to the point that my brain felt like it was about to crack my skull open and escape to get away from the smell. When constant plea to them asking them to mind their higene did not work. It was straight to the boss who didn't do much more than what I did. So I actually had to file a complaint to the workplace health and safety we had and tell them that they're causing me psychological harm (which they were) and the diverted attention due to their smell made the work place hazardous.

Hehe.... after a week. I suddenly realised my head wasn't hurting so much... and these people looked really really sour... at least they were on borderline clean now...
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

Being that I already have an intense dislike for this guy (and have told him to fuck off in the past) it may not be an idea for me to approach him...? My preference is just to say "Fuck you're a stink c*nt. Go and take a bath." But I think that would just seem to be further abuse..? As it has been said I still have to work with him - although the relationship aint that shit hot now....

An anonymous placement of deodorant in his drawer would be a good plan then. Maybe a note that says 'you might want to use this'.

OK, me being the eternal "politically correct fool" - its not your place to tell him, especially seeing there is a bit of history attached already. Dont aggrevate the issue Col, just have a closed door conversation with his manager...

I've had to deal with this issue before with one of our employees. Everyone complained but did nothing about it, so I took him aside one day and told him that he had a problem with B.O.. I was just upfront with him, pointed out that he may want to bring a can of deoderant with him to work. Now the issue is mostly sorted. Mostly.

On another note I was witness to a staff member getting agro with his superior at work one day, in his face threatening him etc. His boss looked him straight in the face, and in front of everyone said, "mate you stink, you need to go home and have a bath. Now go home." The guy was never a problem again.

If you tell him to his face and he's as bigger assehole that you say he is he'll probably just laugh and tell you to suffer. On the other hand he may be embarrassed and get defensive or think you're just taking a cheap shot. I reckon you should ask your boss to deal with it - at least then he'll take it seriously (and that's why the boss gets payed the big bucks...).
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be quoted out of context, then used against you.

There is no point in leaving him deodorant to put on over the top of all that smelly bacteria - it is only of any use if it goes on a clean body.
Get someone who has an ok relationship with the offender, to talk to him. He needs to be told straight up, that he needs to shower twice a day - and change all of his clothes!
CP - ya can't beat around the bush with thickos like this

When I did basic training, there was a guy who smelled and didn't bathe. That was until the day he got taken to the showers and scrubbed with the floor brushes. Never smelly again.

I can't afford for this guy to create problems for me.

and it sounds like deoderant may not fix it....

What would happen if you were around him (or get someone else that gets on wiv him to do it)
then start sniffing like theres a smell, then smell under your own arms or clothes etc (make sure
hes involved in this "lets find the smell") then kinda ease into "oh my goodness so and so its you mate!!...can you smell yourself??? " etc etc..."I hate to be the one to tell
you but you will thank me when some hot chick doesnt have to tell you"....you get the picture aye

It has also just opened up the door for "reminders" to get his smell under control if he has trouble
fixing it "Hey so and so remember our conversation.....its happening again mate"

Then if he does start smelling nice....perhaps someone can acknowledge it (to encourage consistancy)

Do you think that might work as a diplomatic approach Cola??
