    BRONZ - Toy Run

    http://www.dunedin-direct.co.nz/site...events.htm#trs

Toy Run Saturday 2 December 2006
The Toy Run supports local charities at Christmas and all riders are welcome. The toys that motorcyclists donate are distributed to local charity groups. These groups then provide toys to children who are not as fortunate as our own. The Toy Run has been held on the first Saturday of December since 1984 and the donations from riders are much appreciated.

Please bring a toy for the donation. We know toys for older kids are really welcomed, not just fluffy ones for the youngsters. The donation of toys takes place in the Octagon at 3.00pm and this year our Mayor Peter Chinn will be making the donation to the Dunedin North Lions on all the rider’s behalf.

The Toy Run starts at Carey’s Bay from 1.30pm. Between 2 and 2.15pm all the riders will travel to Logan Park High School car park in Butts Road. It is here the group will organise for the ride to the Octagon. The Police will provide escorts and there will be intersection points control along George St. If you can’t join the Run at Carey’s Bay you’re most welcome to join us at Logan Park for the second stage of the ride.

After the Toy Run has finished there will be a free BBQ at the St Kilda Tavern in King Edward St. There will be free non-alcoholic drinks (kindly supplied by the St Kilda Tavern), as well as the usual BBQ fare, and good company.

We appreciate the support of motorcyclists from all over Otago and Southland with this event. All riders are welcomed on the Toy Run – the more the merrier, and the more toys for local kids. back to top

Brilliant event. I was there in the middle of it and seeing that huge line of bikes 2 abreast, all the way down George st was a very impressive sight. The people on the footpaths looked a bit gobsmacked, well at least the ones who had no idea what was going on - people videoing with cell phones etc etc.
This is a great PR thing as well as supporting the kids. There will be a lot of people who looked from the sidelines and thought - shit I'm going to ride in that next year - with bike sales going from strength to strength this event and all the other similar ones round the country will keep growing for a while yet.
Ya gotta have a little bit of sympathy for the poor bugga's in cars stopped at all the intersections though - they must have wondered when the hell the bloody procession was ever going to end!!!
SD & CB we want to see those photos
Quite a few were heading up to the Duntroon Long Drop rally straight afterwards. My mate and I had a good blast round the peninsula and then a quick beer at the BRONZ BBQ. A bit windy but god we live in a great country if you love bikes.
Well done BRONZ for organising this, especially local President Lyn McKie.

Spot on Ruralman - you really captured the great atmosphere of the day. To see mums and dads and kids clapping and waving along the road into town was a real buzz.

Good to catch up with a few old faces and meet a few more, was a highlight for me too. Didn't manage to spot NightHawkNZ in the crowd though.
