Jimmies Pies at Roxburgh does the bestest mutton pie in the whole of christendom. No joking. They are outstandingly good!

Those new-fangled BP service station/supermarket/coffee places do surprisingly good pies.

Otherwise most are just scalding-hot flaky pastry buckets of TVP and gravy. Don't expect to find any animal protein in a "mince" pie.

LUXURY! Back when I was young... in South Africa, there was a shop called King's Pies, in Retreat, Cape Town. Their idea of a pie was the usual pastry shape (although a LOT smaller in height and more doughy) with a smearing of meat paste, similar to peanut butter on a sandwich. You'd bite into the low-rider, and get nothing but shitty pastry with a spreading of meat paste (like pate) on the bottom inside of the pie....

I worked at Trisha's pies for almost 2 years. Their pies are made well, good pastry, good filling, good taste all round (although a little pricy). Maybe not number 1 in the great NZ 3.142857142857 book, but a good pie by most standards.

Dave - Trisha's pies have the official seal of approval at our work.

    We love them here.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Ignoring the shocking wages (compared to what I earn now), it was real sweet to work where I could get as many free pies as I wanted. People love to get pies as a freebie

Oh, that's good to hear. I worked at the Coutts St one (Kilbirnie), which was an outlet and the bakery. Kent Terrace (Wgtn City) was an outlet and office and the Petone one was bought after I left.
