    Needing some more help!

    Hey guys,

This is more directed at anyone in the Christchurch area.

And the problem is: I have only been getting about 140-150km's off a full tank of gas which is not a good thing according to most of the bike shop's.
They say my carbs are running to lean which i think is spot on because i have had a proper mechanic look at it and he said exactly the same thing, but all we did then was change the plugs and hoped for the best.

I am no mechanic and wouldnt know the first place to start with anything internal and dont really want to be spending mega bucks on something that is apparently "simple" so i need someone who atleast knows what they are doing to have a look. (More than happy to pay)
Even some advice would be handy...

    well for starters,

If it's 'too lean' you shouldn't be having fuel consumption issues.

If he said it was too rich that would make sence.

The fuel has to go somewhere. Find out where its going.

It seems to be common fault for these bikes to run rich. 'Wasp' off this site has trouble with his running rich.

PM him and see if he can help you.

how are you riding it to use that much gas?? I would be able to use that ok on my CBR ok if I wanted to go fast

if your air filter is clear and your choke isn't stuck on or anything silly like that, and the carbs are all clean. You may want to go down a jet size in each carb.
has it done this the whole time you've owned it or just recent? standard carb setup is quite rich, so may be normal hard to tell

    hope this helps

Well around town its a pain in the ass because im constantly filling up, but riding long distances is ok, i get about 240ish k's out of a tank.

So going by that it might be the way i ride it around town but thats iffy to because i ride at low to medium revs and arnt exactly going 100kph around town.
Air filter is and should be clean but will be replacing that with a K&N next week so ill see if that makes any difference. If not i guess its down to the things i have no idea about.

So if you cruise at say, 100kph constantly, you get good fuel consumption, but when you do around town riding, where you are at about half throttle, That's when you get fuel issues.

Either you Carb Kneedles are worn badly, or you need to bring the circlip up a couple of notches. ( that drops the needle and reduces fuel consumption )

Either way, unless you wanna get dirty and pull your carbs apart, it might be shop job...

The bandits are rather a thirsty bike, the best you could hope for is probably around 200km from full to reserve.
My bike was set quite rich to compensate for not having a choke, I was getting around 150km to reserve, after adding a choke and leaning it out I get 180 - 200km to reserve depending on the gas and how I rode it.
Check your air filter under your tank (make sure its empty or will leak as you turn it upsidown) maybe plugs too, check your brakes arent rubbing and your rear wheel alignment looks good. Check chain condition and tension and tyre pressures too.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Feck me!!!.. and if im not mistaken its a 14l tank?.. so thats almost 700km's to a tank dam that would be nice.

Well if all you other bandit fans are getting the same amount of k's as me then atleast its not just my bike... It is running very unhealthy at the moment though so i was hoping that someone off here would have a look at it but i guess its off to the shop i go...........again

whats the power delivery like? if your say cruising let off on the throttle and snap it on again does it accelerate instantly and smoothly? or like "stall" for a bit then slowly kick in?

i think I only get roughlyabout 10km/L on mine, mind you - mine has been officially timed at doing 176km/h (oh and i've seen it off the speedo )

Have a shop set the carb for you, It may help to adjust the circlip position in the carb(you want to increase the airflow so that the mixture is no longer rich. Progress one setting at a time as you dont really want your bike to run lean(Causes damage). Secondly check your wheels , tire pressure and ensure nothing is jamming . Set your chain right and ensure its well lubricated. Ensure you have a clean air filter.
I reckon most of your worries come from riding in the city. If the bike is tuned well and all the cycling bits are working well then all you need to do is ride smooth, avoid revin the engine unneccesarily and ride in a higher gear(if it starts knocking or jerking then you are probably too high up the gear box).
My suggestions aim to eliminate other possible causes of bad milage.
Other bandit owners have mentioned a bigger jet as standard to compensate for a missing choke lever. You could look at going down a jet size.
I will be coming down to christchurch next month for xmas with my partners family. Happy to have a chat if your problems are still going.
Hope this helps. have fun ... keep ridin
