Aerox in wellington, can anyone lend a hand?

    Hi!!

    I have an 03 or 04 50cc Yamaha aerox...
It began going slow both uphill and then on flats.

I currently have the trans pulled apart because I thought it could possibly be due to worn rollers... but all looks OK.

I dont have a huge ammount of knowledge when it comes to mechanical stuff, so was wondering if there is anyone in welly that is clued up with these things to come and have a look/help fix it.

I have a funny feeling the exhaust may be blocked, but dont have anyway to burn out the carbon..... (and I dunno how to find out if it is blocked for sure.)
Or pehaps a carb problem? (which I am not ken to pull apart...)

Any help is MUCH appreciated! (or even a point in the right direction.)

    cheers!!
    Brent

A slow down could be caused by carbon built up in the exhaust. Do a search here on Caustic Soda. That could help you clean it out.

    Racey.

hmmm, never thought of using caustic soda... sounds like the go!!

I used t have it up in AKL and Mt Eden Motorcycles said ha the exhaust was blocked, they weren't willing to unblock it and sent me to some guy out in penrose... who said it wasn't blocked and it was something else... by which time I couldn't be arsed gettin it looked into because I was moving back to wellington and haven't needed it down here.

Next week I'm planning on putting the transmission back together and pulling off the exhaust.

oh, and to add to that:

I dont think the guy in penrose actually looked into it, just assumed it was something else.

and of course if anyone in welly can come have a look or wants to help me fix it up, there's cash/beers involved haha

(I'm in kelson in lower hutt)

Well, a quick question. Was the engine still revving out and going slow, or was it just not making power?
If it's revving and going slow, it could be belts/rollers but if it's not revving out, check the carbs and maybe clean the pipe due to carbon build up.

Its just not making power, doesnt rev very highly.
I'm not keen on opening up the carb, never done or seen it done before....

Cleaning out the pipe I can probably do, either that or take it off, and find somewhere/someone that will do it for me... or buy a new one have been looking at some NICE pipes on ebay, but cant find anyone in NZ that stocks anything like them (technigas, etc)

I have the transmission apart at the mo and the belts/rollers look fine so I dont think its that.

I have a car so its not a big deal, but scoots are so much more fun, specially when this one used to do 70-75kph on the flat... standard!

    take it to Matt Brooks.

even tho the belt and the rollers look good they could still be worn.
the belts thin out. and the rollers get smaller and lighter.
