    John Key for PM?

Well after watching his interview on cambell live, i am pretty impressed with John Key. He has a helluva lot going for him.
He talks of giving the 'lower class minorities' incentive to work, and seems to have a good view on politics etc. Plus he is a self made man, obviously has a lot of business sense and has good visions of where he would take NZ if he were PM.
I am pretty certain that as long as he doesnt cock anything up he will get my vote!

Let's start by spelling his name right. Key singular. John Key.

The man has no sense of humour: his wife's name should be Anna.

I wish his name was Donald.

It's about time a man stood up and took the helm of this godammed country, and I don't see anyone lining up to the left.

So speaks a good man! I won't hold my breath, after all he is a politician, but from what I've seen thus far he seems ok. (I mean ok in a guarded way - waiting for what comes next)
If the guy can be successful in business then there may be hope he can manage a country's affairs. The question remains though, can he manage people? Can he get the party together on a national level as well as within his own caucus and lead them to power?

Cheers, that would be a very good point.

Anna Key is already in charge. She needs to get laid or more precisely... get fucked.

Dunno about John... and that's the position I'm maintaining. Fresh blood is often a good thing in politics though

How many people here actually think Helen Clark is a good politician? Maybe not necessarily a good PM, as she's done so much stuff under the table that we'd be shocked to know, and enough out in the open, against public opinion.
But does anyone here think shes an adept politician?

Iwll openly say that i despise her. I find her dishonest, cold hearted and last but certainly not least, a communist. (anyone wanting to argue, go look at her history first). I also find her morally a pain in the ass, she is too anti marriage and anything conservative for my liking.

She certianly IS a good leader, just not one that i respect.

    Depends how you define politician.

As a peoples leader and democratically elected or self proclaimed holder of public/civil office - NO

As a scheming and underhanded person who seeks to gain advantage of others within an organisation or public office - YES

Sorry to disabuse you folks of the notion, but anyone who openly states that they want to be a politician is already compromised as a Human Being, let alone a civic leader.

A much better plan would be to look for the 20 most busy people in the country and give them all the legislative work. Then hold democratic Leadership elections in the best Platonic fashion - pick one person you know and vote for them.

    John Key?

Wouldn't trust him as far as Maurice could f**k him!

I'm decideily under impressed to be honest. Don Brash had definite character flaws but I really liked his policy for the most part, and the way he was leading National well away from centrist politics. Key & English have indicated that they intend to do a complete u-turn and head for the center-right which peeves me right off (pun intended).

If they want to pursuade me to keep my vote with National next election they haev some serious work to do in pursuading me that they are not going all soft, especially on issues like race relations, social welfare, immigration etc.

You are not serious. Yes Key is a self made millionair, but he has done that not by producing anything but by money manipulation. Yep the working class are going to love him. He's got their interests at heart.

So some of your think he's going to be the next PM. That'll happen only with the Maori vote or the the Greens. Winnies lot wont have a bar of him and Dunn he's that flakey he'll be lucky to register in the polls.

National won 20.9% of the party vote under Bill English in 2002, 30.5% of the party vote under Jenny Shipley in 1999, 33.8% of the party vote in the first MMP election in 1996 under Jim Bolger and 35.1% of the vote under the last first-past-the-post election, also achieved under Prime Minister Bolger in 1993.

And yet Brash won 39.1% in the last election. Their best ever and they still can not get it together. Some how I just can't see Key improving on that. Will the Maori Party go with him. I very much doubt it. There's just much resentment against National and the Maori Party leaders know if they want to maintain the 'mana' they will not have a bar of him.

Yep good one Nickey. Love you bro.

Do a search of my posts. Clark is sharp in the art of realpolotik. She's had some hits lately, no doubt about that. But take a look at what's happening. Both Cullen and Mallard are the front guys at the moment. They are not there without a reason; John Key. These two will take him on at his own game. Clark's just sitting in the wings at the moment.........waiting for Key's honeymoon as the New Nats leader to be over.
