We were just settling into this place, Mac has just started at the local primary school, we've got the fuckin mutt and it's rural enough to be a really nice place whilst still easy for me to ride or train into work.

We're both pretty pissed off right now. I need a beer.
FIND OUT WAT THEY WONT FOR THE PLACE AND MAKE AN OFFER ON IT AS IS, PRIVATE SALE TERMS COULD BE CHEPER THAN AGENCY DEAL. YOU WILL HAVE TO SETTLE DOWN AT SOME POINT

I'd love to but when they suggest 360k it's out of my fuckin reach.

The only deposit I can make would barely fill one of those little plastic cups.

You have some grounds to dispute your notice period under the Residential Tenancies Act. The landlord is required to give tenants 3 months notice to vacate unless.....they want to live in it themselves or require it for a member of their family or staff to live in. If that is the case then only 42 days notice is required.

Simply wanting to tidy a place up prior to being put on the market is not a case for 42 days notice.. I recommend you ring 0800 TENANCY and get some advise from Tenancy Services.

PM me if you want any further info.......I have been a landlord/property manager for some 20 odd years and am fairly up to date with the Tenancy laws.

    Good luck!

I was told they are going to move back in prior to selling but also told that we would have first option to buy.

PS The child and woman are still for sale but I think I'll keep the dog and bikes. I'm kinda attached to them.

Even so I have seen cases like this where the owner/landlord says they want to live in it themselves because they want to do work on it or whatever, and have used that as an excuse to shift tenants out. When the real reason is made clear in court they lose!

What a shitty thing to happen at this time of the year, had it happen to me once, not nice

I'll call one of those dodgy mortgage broker types tonight but realistically I think this place is out of our price range, especially given our circumstances.

I know about as much about property as I do about bikes, which is fuck all.

A good point - I've got a Vendor Finance agreement on the house that we're in.

That's If they're interested in making a bit of money now and a little bit later on.

I think you can do better than that for $360K - you have the extra risk of being landed on by a fucken learner pilot..not to mention the local toon doon the road from you.

I've said before that there is a huge disparity in NZ between salaries and house prices - this negates the 'quality of life' argument for coming to NZ.

Come to NZ and be bankrupt near a beach or stay in the UK and buy your own home....the choice is yours.

Try to negotiate an extension to the notice period so at least you're looking at late Jan and try to find another Rental I suppose.
In space, no one can smell your fart.

a good rule of thumb is new car 12 months earnings and a house 10 years earnings its been this way for decades
