In answer to your second question they only started producing them for the Kiwi market in late 2005 I think - hence the scarcity of second hand ones!

While I was booking my BHS and wanting to get on a bike I planned to get a VT250 Magna - for my money the best looking and sounding 250 cruiser out there...the only thing that put me off was actually sitting on it on the day I went in to buy one. I couldn't get comfortable with my feet out the front. Didn't want a fully faired race replica 250 coz that's just pretentious So settled for a naked street bike....halfway house if you like.

Best of luck with getting something you'll enjoy.

The GV wont be as quick as a GTR even though they are the same engine, depends what you want eh.

If you are doing a lot of open road riding maybe the GTR would be the better option

Warlock was telling me the other day he was travelling along crusiing at 110kph on a GTR and his mate on a GV was struggling in the same conditions with wind etc. Even though I'm getting a GTR at the moment I still like the cruiser look, but just wasn't practical for lane splitting in my mind

I was doing a lot of open road riding when I bought my CBR going riverhead highway greens road and all the back roads around kumeu but I have started course out near clevdon which is 120km there and back. THought I would try a crusier untill i get my full.cheaper on gas too arn't they.

I think the gv design is a take off from the Harley fatboy, looks quite similar.

I guess lane splitting is something I haven't considered with a crusier. Is it more dangerous or what.

Does anyone post rep on this site or what.

To me the riding position wouldn't be a good one to split in. Look at it this way...........how many crusiers you see splitting in rush hour?

I have had an Intruder 250, and now have a GV250 (thanks mostly to a fricken thief taking my Suzuki)

the Hyosung has got more grunt I reckon, weighs a little more, but the seating position is nice too. Proably sounds better.

    value wise

    GV250 - $6390 + orc new
    VL250 - $7995 + orc new (I think)

if its just to have a cruiser style bike while you do ya paperwork to eventually upgrade to a larger engine.. then go for the hyosung.
a new one has a warranty, they look good, I commute on mine every day, not huge into lane splitting, but I do it every now and then.

Like you I think, I'm not keen on a sportsbike, so a 250 cruiser is the go.
I had a pretty hard out look both times I went to buy a bike, and was pretty happy with the purchase of both of them.

I'll be selling my hyosung in april (with datadots and a motion alarm) if you want to wait till then

oh yeah, and if you are on your learners, you aint supposed to go faster than 70kph anyhow

i did a trip akl - whangarei return a few weeks back.. had a bit of a sore arse/lower back at the end of the trip, and the only car to pass me was a Porsche... (twice - cos I got one back on him by Ruakaka)

Well 120+ kms a day on the motorway isnt much fun on a sports bike and the only decent 250 sports bikes are 15 year old cbrs and zxrs.

I want a crusier for the comuting and when I get my full ill buy a decent sports bike for recreational rides.

Thanks guys and gal. I bought a 04gsx from tauranga for $3600 and rode it up to auckland today. Good bike at a really good price. Only a minor scrape and crack on right side fairing and full years warrant and rego. bargain!
