An ambitious proposal to build a Bathurst-style motor racing track just south of Meremere has received the green light from Waikato District Council.


The council's hearings committee yesterday granted resource consent for the construction of Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, though with 99 conditions attached.

Consent is subject to appeals with a closing date of January 12, and Environment Waikato consents will also be required for any emissions or discharges.

With all the expense of flash apartments and the like, I just hope the bike clubs can afford to hire it. Bring on a true undulating track in NZ, YEEEE HAAA!
