I'll second that, theres blue sky visible in ashhurst right now
"Not one day that we are here on this earth has been promised to us, so make the most of every day as if it was your last, and every breath ,as if it were the same"
Damn it! I just fixed my bike.... Would have got it sorted yesterday except that I had hell of a fun timetrying to bleed the bloody brake.... Another thread about that somewhere...
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........
Well, despite the weather being a bit up and down(and all over the place) made it there and back in one piece, complete with new tyres scrubbed in to within a half inch of the edge, and managed not to be soaking wet
Cheers to the rest of the ashhurst yobbos for not leaving me too far behind and showing me a better way home.
PS Bonez, please dont ever flash "a bit of leg" again, I'm sure I saw at least three people nearly fall off when you exhibited yourself![]()
"Not one day that we are here on this earth has been promised to us, so make the most of every day as if it was your last, and every breath ,as if it were the same"
i went to the start, there were a lot of bikes there...
i took off almost last, but i the ones near the rear, obvisouly (SP?) never ridden in a group before, there must have been AT LEAST 20 bikes in INDIAN file!!!!!!!!
i am sorry but if there were any KBers in that group.. but i just couldn't sit behind them... it was tooooo dangerous
but i was showen a new way to woodville that i never knew was there.. apart from the gravel and mud...... it was far better!
only question now is
who knows how to change the clutch of a xj650 turbo??? BEFORE XMASS
and
FREE?????
what a ride so far!!!!
Although the weather forecast might have kept some people away (harden up you guys!) there seemed to be as many people there as last year. Gunner and myself are glad we made the effort to go - it rained pretty hard up until McKays crossing and from then on I knew we had made the right decision. Given the tragedies and sadness of recent days it was great for the mental health to have taken part in this ride. Good feelings all the way through and I love the way the locals come out to watch and wave as we go past - especially the guy at the Sanson SH1/3 intersection, he gave me a big thumbs up as I went through (he looked a bit like Jason McEwen - hope it was because it made my day). Decided not to complete the ride through to the other coast (yes - I need to harden up some too) so departed from Woodville and went back to Wellington via the Gorge. Thanks to all who took part and organised it etc, hope you all made it home safely..
pretentious moi?
Good to see you and Sels. The CX performed swimmingly in the wet (pun intended) with the Chin Shing front and Shenko rear tyre. A lot better than expected. It pissed down. Got the old girl to valve bounce a few times, it's really under geared. Rode back through Weber on to Dannivirke on though the gorge just in time to be ready for the xmas do. Bit tired so didn't drink too much. Got woken up this morning by my 1.5 yo grandson saying "bike bike!".
Ride was alot drier than wet with the wind drying out the road fairly quickly. Met up with a ashurst guys at the Mobil and we all left Himitangi together but I stopped at Feilding to put my Wet gear on and lost them.
Only saw one off at that was in Feilding at the right turn into North Street. Dunno what happend but the guy wasn't getting up and was being looked at by helpers.
1/Identify these bikes
2/ Refueling at Woodville (actually very fast)
3 and 4/ At the beach
It was a great day, my first official group ride and certainly not the last. We met up at Shell Mana at 7am and didn't get any rain until later in the day. It was dry at Himitangi and stayed that way until halfway through lunch when we were all under the trees in Woodville.
The route was great. The ride from SH1 Sanson to Fielding is always a cool road. Was sorry to see the guy 5 bikes in front go down on the white chevrons in Fielding. He was going walking pace but had to dab the brake because of the traffic. It must have been a heavy fall as I hear he might have busted his leg - that's real sad, hope he's better soon.
The saddle road from Ashburst to Woodville is a classic bike track. Loverly sweepers, some nasty little ones and so much to look at, god those windmills are big. Features of that particular road were the nice muddy bits right across the road just far enough around the corner so you didn't see it coming, the windmills of course and some new bikers who braked just on the apex of the corners as I was powering up.
Idiot of the day goes to the guy on saddle road who tried a zap-past between slow corners, got in too deep too fast for the left hander, went straight across the road, up a bank and stopped at the top beside a farm gate. Lucky too I guess.
We bailed from the ride at Woodville too and went down the Wairarapa for the trip back to Welly that's where we met the vicious rain and winds of the day. After a pleasant stop at the Eketahuna "cafe" and a catch up with friends in Masterton, my day finished with a dry trip over the Rimmies on a road that had not one other car on it ... either on the way up or down (that might be a once in a lifetime event). Home at 1800hrs happy to be back on a bike and wonderin why I ever stopped.

Andy and I rode up to the start and there was an impressive array of bikes - good to see another black Goose too, hi Storm! And good to catch up with Sels again, think the last time was the Silk Riders event in Wellington.
We had friends coming for lunch so I headed home after everyone took off, while Andy joined the ride until it started raining then also came home.
The weather certainly started off much better than expected, although in Levin we got four seasons in one day later - snow on the Tararuas, wind, rain, sunshine, you name it, we had it! And it was COLD!
Unfortunately it appears they will never get rid of the idiots on this ride - the main reason I have done it once and won't do it again. Being over and undertaken on the same corner by two guys on fast sports bikes ("hey, let's terrorise the girly on the RG150") didn't impress me - neither did seeing them both crash a few corners later. Andy has done the 1000 Miler every year for the past 20 years and yet even he refuses to do the whole Coast to Coast. He says there are too many morons who take stupid risks and I have to agree with him.
Good on all you sensible riders who took part safely - shame all the riders aren't like that.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
Mstrs, Crashe and I stopped at Boots and Braces (woodville) to warm up and dry off a bit on our way home from Welly, heaps of bikes there. We saw Garry H riding past, but didn't recognise any other KBers.
It was very cold and very wet!
Diarrhoea is hereditary - it runs in your jeans
If my nose was running money, I'd blow it all on you...
I will give this a go. Starting from the right hand side.
1. dunno
2. the bonez mobile - This bike completing the ride is a miracle such that hasn't been repeated since Jesus walked on water.
3. Some crappy yellow thing..
4. The mighty VN1500 of the one we call Meanie.
5. The goose 350 of Storms
6. The duc 500. I keep forgetting his site name... Mate of Bonez
7. Stray Harley.
8. The superbike
9. GSXR400 of Glenn.
10. DHunts new GSXR600. Real nice but someone convince this guy to buy a bike thats not yellow....
Anyhow, I had a fantastic day. Got out in front for the ride to Woodville. Had some fun with a couple of buses with kids in them doing the wave thing. Saddle Road was dogdy as ever. Slippery Crap that is. Pretty slow over there but always good to see the windmills. Got fairly wet on the way to woodville and contemplated not going on over lunch. Someone said it wasn't raining at he beach so decided to continue. It wasn't raining AT the beach but no one said about the weather on the way to the beach. Managed to get 18km/L on the way out there and pretty sure that I added tread to my tires. Happy to have completed the ride cause I came away with a brand new Bridgestone rear tire as a spot prize. Stoked about that.
The ride home was brilliant. Glenn and I held a healthy pace out through webber and through to Dannievirke. It was fun to be on dry roads and starting to trust the front a bit more. Meanie and Storm followed us up and no incidents which is all good.
Didn't see the usual idiots on tthe ride myself. It was all pretty tame.
i didnt realise sels owned that 900. I met him briefly at the beginning of the ride along with ajturbo. Doug is his name. Dont know why I cant get that!
Yes I know bike 3 is garryH bike. He is real quick on it too. He was picking on my bike so any chance for a stab is a good one.
Just for posterity's sake, I can ID the bikes in 4/ as my Honda CBR600 first in line followed by 3x almost identical Honda VFR750's, 1x Honda VFR800. Out of shot is Dave's Kwaka ZZR1100 and that makes up our riding team for the day.
Thanks for the memories ... what a day
Brett
