Annual Memorial Ride

I would like some feedback from folks on the subject of an annual memorial ride, would you support it, anyone who would be prepared to organise it in other districts than Auckland.
Maybe sometime in February, thinking of a half day or so with a few stops, good roads etc.

Seems a good idea tbh count me in, but people need to remember its a ride NOT a race.

Think it's a great idea. I'm not good at the organising stuff and not all that experienced at riding so I'm definitely not the best person to start something in the Wellington region. However, I'd wholeheartedly support a Wellington ride.

I know I'll be using smooth throttle control on our Ladies ride on Sunday (weather permitting) just for Uncle B.

I don't want to rain on your parade mate but...

Those of us that are a little older have lost more than a few mates. Some to bikes and some more to a variety of other fatal incidents - all are missed. In fact, as you get older, you miss them even more.

So - who will this ride be in memory of, how would you choose?

A possible solution is to start every organised KB ride with a brief salute / or toast 'To absent friends'. At each meal we have together we can set aside a place for our absent friends ....

I would definately support such an event to pay respects and celebrate the lives of fellow riders. Great idea Mack.

To each their own. I am lucky enough to only know a few from KB who have died - so for me it's about remembering them.

I'm keen (to participate). Were you thinking of a bunch of regional rides (in which case there's no need to limit it to NI; other centres can run local rides too) or a big get-together that people travel the length of the island for? In the latter case, it probably wants to last a bit longer than half a day.

Paul - I think I see where you're coming from, but I think it's good to have a way for this particular community to remember its own members. Other bikers can be remembered (or perhaps 'acknowleged' is a better word) too, and of course you can and will remember your other mates too.

We could maybe make Memorial Rides in all areas charity rides and donate the proceeds to local spinal/rehabilitation units or something? You know, make a difference whilst at the same time remembering those we have lost.

Just an idea. Not trying to be controversial.

No rain here Paul, the memorial rides I have been on in the past are not about specific people, but about those who choose to attend remembering those of their friends who have passed on by whatever means. Like others, I too have many friends and family who are no longer with us and remain forever in my heart.
The format I have in mind is that there will be a brief reminder moment at the start of the ride (not race) and a toast of sorts at the meal or conclusion. This event is just a way of showing respect and rememberance for lost friends and loved ones, not a morbid affair just a tribute to those gone before.

Not meant to be a North Island only thing but couldn't find an option for national!
I was thinking of regional rides on the same day (preferably), organised by whoever was willing to do so in the various places. So it would take some good organisers to volunteer their time.
