Annual Memorial Ride

Great idea and I believe every member is going to be interested in and positive towards this sort of event. However, it is too soon to be organising or discussing this given the fact none of those passed on have even been burried as yet.

Grief is one of many human emotions that defy logic, what is the point of getting yourself all upset about someone that has died?

will it bring them back?

Does it make you feel any better?

Would those that have passed on want you to be upset?

So Swantiger it is not too soon, life goes on we are all going to die at some stage atleast the 3 guys that died over the weekend died doing something they love rather than being crippled with cancer in a hospital for 6 months.

Let us remember them with joy not with sorrow

I think an annual day where we remember those who are no longer with us, and recognise that what we do can be dangerous is a good idea. Perhaps it should be a day to also appreciate the time we get to spend with each other here and now, as noone knows when their time will be up. I would be happy to help organise in any way if wanted to.

Perhaps in light of the recent weekend being the worst many can remember the first saturday of December be nominated?

I am not upset and I'm not being morbid about this thread and I did not say that it wasn't a good idea, I'm all for it, I just think its too soon, my opinion, I've expressed it, you've expressed yours, I see no point in making it personal, or do you enjoy dictating differing opinions? Enough said.

all good wasn't making it personal i just think people dwell on these things too long. It's not a time to be sad its a time to be happy and remember those that came b4 us. things could have been a whole lot worse.

Paul - I think I see where you're coming from, but I think it's good to have a way for this particular community to remember its own members. Other bikers can be remembered (or perhaps 'acknowleged' is a better word) too, and of course you can and will remember your other mates too.

Yup - and what about those who are seriously injured or those who have passed on but were not regular posters here?

What I would support is a celebration of life and motorcycling with a portion that acknowledges the dangers and remembers those who have gone before.

Another alternate is an annual ride. There was an excellent bank pennisula ride that celebrated a particular individual but for myself - I'd rather a tradition of raising a cheer for our deparded at the start of each ride - it may just have a positive effect?

Im in agreement for an anual get together.I agree with the first saturday of december being apropriate
There have now been 6? Kbers who have passed away since I joined but given how close together 3 of them have been it just seems right

yes - sorry I didn't fully explain - work got in the way and I went send with a half arsed reply - appologies. I meant you can organise a ride on the day and call it the Uncle B run or whatever and it can become an institution - for a while - In my limited experience about 5 years is a good run

This is kinda fresh for this though - give it a few weeks and then post it into the calendar?

One thing though. This has been a shocking weekend for everyone - 3 in one weekend is tragic. But - with over 6,000 members - these events will sadly become more - frequent (I know I know but it's the reality)

Yeah, and have someone say afew words at the start, minute's silence with lids off, ride with pegs down etc... Good way to remember.

Collect some dosh (afew bucks each maybe) and get cards and flowers for the surviving family as well. Might as well make something practically useful out of it eh? We can all put a signature in before the ride.

If this eventuates, I'm happy to organise this side of things.
