The bits are OK, but the colour scheme is hideous.

Not too fussed on the paint job, though maybe its the pictures...

Tell me, anyone who knows these things. How do the Harris framers compare now against the modern stuff that's coming out? I understand they used to have a real advantage for guys putting Z1 or GSX1100 motors in them, but in the 21st Century, how do the frames really rate now?

Or is it just the hand-made, impeccible welding and craftsmanship the real allure?
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

That goldish colour used on the frame looks awful. But I love the bike's shape and the other colours used

just finished reading an article about the boys at harris and spondon, the words hand made doesn't do these guys justice, a little of their soul is poured into each and every frame. They know each one by eye, incredible craftmanship.

So whilst bike frames have improved tenfold from the bad old bendy days, these guys are still full bore busy, the US market is big for them, but still plenty of folks using them to race with.

I liked one story about this guy with a magnum 1 i think it was, anyway he had the frame since the early eighties and has used it to bulid several bikes, everytime he wants a new bike he strips it back to the frame, buys a crashed 'sportsbike' for donor engine and shoehorns it into a beautiful frame and slaps the best bits around it until he is happy. speaks volumes about how special these frames are

For 20K you could build one exactly how you want it, custom bikes are so personal I don't know if building one on spec is such a good idea. Like steve burns monster bike - been trying to find a picture of this for ages. Sorry for the Hijack - not worthy of a new thread... http://www.spondonownersclub.co.uk/burnsiebikes.htm

you could build one exactly how you want it... so, you have the skills to engineer a frame perfectly? ugh, sorry, that was unintentionally mean. If you take a look at the trademe page, harris bikes are customised to order. Unlike bikes you personally make from scratch, im sure harris have alot more experience and therefore make their frames/kit in a way that reflects this.
