    Electroplating engine parts

Anybody here works for an electroplating firm or have a mate who does?

Whilst a test sandblasting on my expired engine parts (chrome bore with alloy body) for displaying inside the house worked wonders in cleaning them up, this process however does remove the oxide layer off the alloy. Thus, finger prints leave marks (acid on skin).

Thought about spraying some sort of clear plastic film on to prevent this but this doesn't feel to be a good long term solution, in my thinking anyway. These parts will be subject to extensive, if not permanent, exposure to water / moisture.

Thus I'm now looking into electroplating them, unless somebody has a much better/cheaper idea, am trying to keep costs to a minimum.

I'm not too sure on all the options available to me, but looking at car rims, shadow chrome looks nice. Thought about galvanising (as found on trailers) and whilst this will solve my problem, it doesn't have that 'wow' factor in terms of appearances.

Does anybody here work for an electroplating firm or have a mate who does?

I'm hoping somebody does and they can present my three items (7kg each) as their own so I can get some sort of 'inside' job price.

If you're willing to do this for free, then I'm sure a few doz (or money value) can be arranged.

If you're outside of Chch, I'll have to enquire and take into account courier costs.

    Thank you very much.

    *** bump *** anybody? ***

Since there have been no posts regarding advice, I therefore suspect I'm on the right path.

Sigh ,,, my own 'surprise' Christmas present won't be ready in time for this year
Oh well, there's always another birthday / special day next year

I had my Ducati rockers plated by a firm in CHCH, I believe they do standard plating as well as hard chroming. I can find out for if you wanna...
EDIT: cost was very good...compaired to others

You could try HPC coatings as they've got a silver that looks like chrome, many "silver" fork legs are coated in this.....
