    Angry Stupid prick

Yeah, I know someone's son and all that, but ya can't help thinking Darwin got it right. It pisses me off that once again stupidity adds another statistic to show that "bikes" are just sooooo dangerous

A teenager was flown to Waikato Hospital with head injuries after his motorbike and a school bus collided near Whakamaru yesterday. It appears this kid rode his motorbike out of a driveway straight into the path of the school bus. He was not wearing a helmet. He's alive though, St John paramedics stabilised the boy before he was flown to hospital in a serious condition.

Nice head-shaped hole in the bus's windscreen. I'd say he'll be lucky if he's not brain-damaged.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I've seen a lot of adults riding around the area I live in without helmets or any kind of protective clothing whatsoever. What do they ride? It's always some type of MX bike!

He's had quite a lot to read in the last week, not sure he needs any more.

Sure! Bikes are dangerous and obviously in the light of this, MX bikes are the most dangerous! Like cars, and guns and alcohol and... oh hang on! Is it the people that are dangerous...? Surely not!

Hope the kid's going to be okay and can learn from this. Everyone can suffer a moment's brain fade, so maybe there's a bit more to the story?

My first ride on a trail bike involved coming to rest on a fence post.

I don't know if you remember it, but that feeling of, "hey look I'm doing it", got overwhelmed in a series of panics about how to turn, brake - pushbikes didn't help here - both handle bar levers were brakes and the front brake was the LEFT lever on my pushie, changing gear, wow this is fast, aaagh, fence post, crump........

    Much laughter from my mates.

It's easy to leap to the conclusion this kid knew how to ride. Maybe it was his first time on a motorised bicycle.

It pays not to make assumptions about anything written about motorcycles in the NZ media. They don't know, don't care, and assume the rider was a hairy lout who deserved it.

If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

    Jeez guys,

What if it was your kid? How can we criticise this young man for making a mistake, and at the same time mourn for three lost members this week. Two of which may have made an err of judgement.

Yeah - I remember. Same feeling no doubt but different, controlled (almost) environment, usually in one of the Uncle's paddocks (everyone was a farmer back then) in my days of learning how to ride. I made no conclusions and I do not give a toss whether this kid had no experiened or had been riding since before he could walk, an exit onto a road where there is likely to be any vehicle (let alone a bus) without a helmet is just plain stupid. Someone should have been looking after him or at least drilling into him the need for at the very least a helmet - if it were my kid he'd get a smack - but that's not allowed now is it?
