What a time to be alive...

As previously posted - on friday I ended up with a foot infection which for me (type 1 diabetes) can be a big deal.

I'd ignored it (well I rubbed in some left over cream in the bathroom - I think it was for worms but it had a red cross on the packet) and I was feeling pretty sick. In fact - I could feel the burning up my leg which, from watching old movies was a sure sign the venom was spreading. Well maybe not but when i drove home at lunchtime to go to the doctors I pulled over for a spit at one stage - I was a sick puppy.

Magic ointment and a massive dose of antibiotics and 3 hours later I'm a different chap.

Few days later - feel great - bit of dried up skin is the only sign.

Being on insulin I know that 100 years ago - I'd be well dead by now anyway but to me this is a small miracle. Before WW1 a small infection like that could have killed me and now, $50 and I'm on top of the world.....

What an age we live in....

With you there Paul, just today was reflecting with workmates that not too many years ago my heart attck would have killed me instead of just knocking me back for a few weeks

    Yeah, bloody Type I diabetes.

I got a dead hair in my beard about four weeks ago. As usual, it got infected. Which drove my blood sugars up. Which fed the infection.

End result - a bloody great gap in the beard and a huge spot on my chin.

Dammit - I'm not going to get any antibiotics - I'm fighting this sucker, even if its making me feel like shit.

Increased the Humulin to 80 units morning and night now. And the Humalog's usage is going through the roof - and we just had an afternoon tea at work - mmmmm pies for afternoon tea!!!!
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

I have started... The ironic thing is - I picked up the infection in the shower at the bloody gym... Quite funny really.

But seriously - its too easy to focus on the bad stuff. Look around us - what an age to live in...

Had the same thing happen to me. Except no beard to hide the lump under my chin and a customer call to go on... It looked like I was spawning a small moon... Eventually dug the bastard thing out - messy....

Good you are ok now - I have just been learning about the many side effects of Diabetes! My mother has injections every day - so I get my bloods done often.
Last nite I was getting a takeaway coffee in Manners Mall and a guy beside me was shaking, white as a sheet - I heard his friend telling him his levels were very low - and he was telling him to drink the oj, eat etc.
It's good to learn about these things - at least you know a little if you have to help someone.

Last year my appendix decided its time was up and exploded ....
luckily i was already in the hospital getting ready to get it taken out.

I would also not be around anymore if it happened a hundred years ago or i was in a third world country

Now that you are ok..... worm-cream?

But hell yeah, we take a lot for granted and it's good to reflect on that. Half the population doesn't even remember the cold war (no, that's not a war between Iceland and the Eskimo's)
