    The favourite - Speed cameras

At the risk somebody has put in a thread on this, the govt is looking at dropping the fines issued from the use of speed cameras but to issue demerit points, sounds o.k. to me, those that scream "revenue gathering" will be extatic and over the moon if that comes to fruition

The item to which you refer was Commissioner Rob Robinson speaking "in a personal capacity", to make a point about road safety, as he put it.

The Police would have to completely rewrite their statement of intent and recast their budget if they were to drop speed infringement revenue. Hell will freeze over first.

There will be a sudden influx of company cars shared by everyone, Hmmm, does that mean all the bosses will be walking before too long?

Noting the comments in the same article about 'losing community support" and 'public resistance to revenue gathering'. Would anyone like to comment on the futility of publicly voicing your anger/disagreement, etc. with policies you don't agree with?
PS. If these changes come "anytime soon", I will not gloat; I promise, Spud.

Yeah no worries,I'l put my head on that block.
I've seen a number of petitions and even heard of a referendum or two that looked pretty strong at the time.Did the poli's take one jot of interest ?,Hell no.There is even this sensible sentencing group that just about everybody agrees with, but do the poli's take notice of them,Hell no.
What we really need is a good old fashion revolution.
But I doubt anybody would show up,our poli's know us quite well huh.
Or to put it another way,The average Kiwi wouldn't put out if his ass was on fire and THEY know it.

I can see the demerit points being issued, but only after some sort of electronic gadget has been rigged up to identify the driver of the vehicle, and confirmed it against the registered owner etc, it's not possible otherwise, secondly the Govt will never, never, never, surrender their revenue gaining activities in this matter, so it will be demerits as well as, I believe it's quite possible to have cars micro chipped, to indicate how far, how fast and where and quite possibly our future drivers licences to be micro chipped as well, quite logical really, why else the ongoing compulsory training to carry your drivers licence at all times, this of course would only penalise the honest people, the crims would never carry theirs!, so we will need an implanted micro chip to make it fair for everyone don't ya think?,

I have a mate who lived in London a few years ago. He was telling us about the camera system they have. It is linked to a computer system that can tell that you should not have passed the two camera points in that short time frame. What was happening was quit funny. People were making plates for their cars. Now the catch was to have a plate number from the same make model and colour as your car. If a cop searched the plate number it look ok at a glance. Once the cameras were in stalled the authorities found that cars were getting from one side of London to the other in a few minutes. These cameras found that a lot of cars were not registered but driving around with false plates. So the technology is out there. Why does our Rego sticker have a bar code?

1: I haven't read the article so can't really comment on that.
2: I'm not a fan of speed cameras and in fact of all the police initiatives I feel it is the only one that does stink of revenue gathering.
3: Its not always futile to voice opposition, plenty of issues have been overturned by an outcry of public dissatisfaction.
4: Feel free to gloat if you wish - I DON"T CARE!

Understand this system is in use on a new stretch of motorway in Aussieland, maybe a KB member over there would care to share more about it?
