You wear the warm clothing, you don't need eatin' irons (real rally food comes in paper bags), likewise you don't need the mug (drink straight from the can). That just leaves the tent, sleeping bag and hat. A pack rack should be adequate to tie everything to.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

    Say what?

A pack rack, on my bike? Hell, I may as well sell it, and buy a harley! Sorry, I didn't mean that, really, I promise :P

Well, depending on who's going, I might sort something out.

Need to get some form of saddle bags this year to get the weight lower. Its harder to pack a sports bike for two though
This year I'll pack lighter as there were unused articles taking up space.
I'ts only for two nights if you remember them that is for some of you guys anyway
I recomend the prepaid meals last year they were really good unlike the Brass Monkey ones, that just leaves a Friday night meal out at Waiouru or Ohakune and a choice of other eats on site to feed the worms when the need arises. Most just survive on a liquid all day lunch.
Some bring a elaborate setup in a cage with driver so they can travel light.

Viv & I will be going up on our KLR250's if anyone wants to join us, nice leisurely trip, may go up to Himitangi on Friday nite so can get on the road early Sat morning.
Will be looking at an alternative road ( gravel ) for the return trip.

PM me if you are going up Sat from Wellington and want someone to ride with.

You can get away with not taking a tent too, I haven't had to pack a tent yet, as my brother takes his 2 man tent. So just make sure one of your crew has a tent and you're sweet. I'm sure a beer or 6 will be suffice rent for the night

Cannot imagine this rally ever stopping, too much history to let this one fall over.
