i agree with you re: liam. no one knows what happened. from what i can tell from that hideous photo they gave the papers, he looked like a smart arse who likely said something to the guy who killed him. everyone knows their place with gang members [i think thats what he is?] and to basically keep eyes on the floor.
i love the fact we are letting our future slip from out fingers. when i was a kid, i was told not to do xxxx cos xxxx would happen. one was smoking, another using the word handicap. basically everything. i think they forgot to tell todays kids. *sigh* hopefully i wont be around when it all goes pear shaped.

Don't we have juvenile detention centres in this country? Surely the magistrate/judge can recommend a custodial sentence or is it up to the prosecution to decide what range of sentences they recommend to the magistrate?

Yeah, I seem to recall a few wayward mates got the six weeks at the army camp in Waiouru. This was in the late 80s, and Lower Hutt District Court was a bit tougher then I guess.
