    Oregon Camera (Bike Cam)

In my quest to find the perfect Bike Cam, I think I have found a pretty good one.

Its Called "Oregon Scientific" and costs $200. Available from Noel Leemings
This camera is water proof, shock proof, has audio and records the footage inside the camera via a SD card or the 32mb internal memory.

The excelent thing about this is, The camera is all you need to do everything except view the movies on the camera as it has no viewfinder.

Comes with handle bar mount, flat mount, velcro straps, rubber strap, silicon grease for the O rings, sticky rubber and velcro pads, USB cable, and A/V cable.

Uses 2x AA batteries which last a very long time.
    Video Modes:
    High - 640x480 30fps, 640x480 15fps
    Med - 320x240 30fps, 320x240 15fps
    Lo - 160x120 30fps, 160x120 15fps
    All in AVI format
    Dimensions : 40mm dia x 110mm long

Has 3 buttons on top, ON/OFF, RECORD, MENU.
Takes up to a max 2GB SD card, which records 1HR's footage at the highest resolution. Has a base that swivels.
The exposure works really well and so does the focusing (has a really large fixed focus length)
Plug it into the computer to download/watch and it also works as a mass storage device, plug it into a tv for direct playback. Or delete the clips on the camera itself via the menu.

    CONS.
The mic isnt very sensitive, because its water proof its behind the plastic/rubber housing.
The flat base that it comes with needs to be a little bit larger to make it more stable.
Its small rubber buttons makes it hard to turn on/off with gloves on.
    AVI format only.
Maximum 2Gig SD card =1HR, you could try a 4Gig and see if it works.

Heres a few pics, screen shots and a video clip. (converted the clip to 320x240 wmv so I could upload)
The camera falls off in the clip, but I had made up a saftey line on it, was attached with magnets onto my tank and the vibrations was resonating up into the cameras mic making it sound funny with the revs of the bike.
Was my first attempt of mounting this camera on the bike so will come up with a better way next time.

Was that balanced on top of your tankbag, or something? Clearly you have an adhesion problem.

Just stuck some strong magnets on the flat base atachment that comes with the camera and stuck it to the tank.
The base needs to be bigger, the length of the camera is more than the base so its a bit tipsy forward. Easily fixed tho.

If you just plug it into a TV, does it just display what it is seeing? Ie. when not playing back.

No, as soon as you plug it into a tv or similar and turn it on, it brings up a playback menu only.

I saw this advertised and thought it looked pretty good.

Thanks for the write up, it's very tempting.

You cant go wrong really, $200 isnt much considering a standard spycam is about $50 and then you have to record it somehow. It would be good for skiing or snowboarding aswell (waterproof, shockproof).

Here is a good review of it.

I may have to get one.

Edit: Just read the comments from people that own this camera. Doesn't sound like it would be that great on a motorbike.
Gunner, would be interested in some some more video once you have some.

    Cheers
