You should have attached a poll.

Would be interesting no why people have been circumsized as well. I'm guessing it is because here parents wanted them to be (as in, had no say in the matter).

Well no because as far as I know girls in this country don't and havn't ever been circumcised. Don't get me wrong here because i don't know if i would of it would of had to be dicussed with the doctors and my then husband who was circumcised (Mind you he should of had his cock cut off all together).

Yeah – and at birth they should remove everyone’s appendix just in case it plays up, or toe-nails in case they become ingrown.

A pointless exercise unless required for medical reasons.

Pointless for religious reasons as well IMO. Tell me why the world gets upset over the brutalisation of female genitals in some countries but believes the circumcision of males under the banner of religion to be acceptable? Both are evil.

The ONLY reason for doing it is a rare condition that the foreskin is too small for the growing penis, anything else is vanity, laziness, or religion based

Basic hygiene practised and its not required at all
Well obviously at 8 it was medical or are you just saying he is unhygienic

Parrotting everyone else, it's a pointless prceedure. It's cruel and unneccessary.

To have it done as a baby instead of 8 is neither here or there......
You could also say better at 8 than at 30......Why? Because it's in the past and forgotten.

People are used to babies crying, so it's not as big a deal, that does'nt mean it's not in some real agony.

Men that are circumcised later on in life generally regret it. They report a major decline in sexual pleasure.

For a proceedure done without medical reason it's not really cricket now is it?

Imagine your clit was cut off at birth because it's the norm like in tribal communities. It's not exactly the same but it's close.

Well to tell you the truth i don't even know why they do it to women.

And if and i say if i had a boy and was going to get it done as stated above it would of been because his dad was.

Two cases reported in the news this afternoon of a 4 year old whose op was botched, necessitating emergency surgery; which had followed a 14 year old boy who had it done and was screaming the place down apparently, despite having the max dose of morphine.

I think it used to be a "cultural" thing here a generation or so ago - you know the old "circumsised at 8 days" thing.

Personally I see no reason for it at all, unless there is a medical reason.

p.s. I did wonder with the cases I just mentioned first whether it was a "non native Kiwi" cultural situation, especially since the procedure was being assisted by a doctor who isn't even certified to practice here???.....???

So they can't experience sexual pleasure.

Sorry for not quoting before - you posted this while i was busy typing. I think the girl thing is largely to do with denying them sexual pleasure, regarded as inappropriate in some cultures. Thankfully not here!!!!

Back in my baby days it was apparently standard procedure for boys.
My kids are girls but if I had a boy I'd only ever consider it if the quack convinced me it was medically necessary.

Actually, there was a pretty funny and ridiculous documentary about a support group of circumsised men (in NZ) who were up in arms about being brutalised and were attaching weight to the skin of their wee fullas to try to regrow a foreskin! Fuck it was so pathetic but you had to laugh

Hey Mrs, it wasn't this doctor?

Botched circumcision puts four-year-old in hospital

I can understand that some young lads do need the op to 'free willy' but when the poor chaps haven't had a 'local' for their wee fellas, THATS GONNA HURT!

Most guys I know who are chopped are proud of their status...... easy to keep clean too.

My son is 11 and I we were told when he was born that the only way it could be done was to go private and pay for it. Not that I would have had it done in the first place.

When I was done, painkillers were not used at all. It was the norm for a 1 or 2 day old baby to be strapped down and snipped.

I was done because my father was done, who was done because his father was done etc.

Fucken barbaric if you ask me. not that they did......

Correct - a practice designed by uneducated evil men. Preformed by village elder women often with a broken bit of glass (I saw a documentary where one used a broken bit of Coke bottle!). No pain killer at all, preformed at sexual maturity.
A rite of passage usually resulting in severe infection and sometimes death.

    Sickening.
