Hey guys, this thread has probably been writen about before but anyway... what i want to know is how i go about importing a sports bike for the road (like the zxr etc). I have had a look on the net but can't find any companies that do it from nz. can anyone help me or point me in the right direction? also is it worth importing one myself? is it going to save me much coin?

    cheers

Hi, I bought a bike on eBay last year. The essentials are: you have to trust who you are buying off. Crating, shipping to someone who exports. Paying your shipper and seller. Getting the ownership papers and bill of lading etc. You want it landed at a port close to you. You have to get MAF involved and Customs. It's well worth doing if you are after something that is rare or unobtainable in NZ. I would recommend using a shipping agent, there was a lot I didn't know about and they smoothed the way. There is a lot to learn, like when you get to customs they want you to take the crate away too! Just heaps to work through so if that dude is offering his cellphone number he might know more than me. Phone him, he might be able to streamline the process. I won't be doing it again, it was a real hassle. I'm not a forum member, my son thought I should comment on your post. Good luck.

Then once it's landed you have to get it VIN'd, which is like a super WOF. If you import from the USA remember that their headlights dip to the right, you will need a headlight that dips to the left. The tyres, brake components etc have to be "on their list". That means that you can't use dodgy Chinese parts. You will need to start by getting your brakes rebuilt if it is a high mileage bike..My bike was dropped at some stage and they wanted the frame measured ($380) but I wormed out of that mind-f*uck. Everyone who touches or looks at any paperwork or the crate will have their hand out. As I said, good luck, but you might find what you want on TradeMe.

This is actually ToyCollector10, Romeo is my son's account ;s.

What the guy above is saying is pretty accurate, it can be a real pain unless you know the system in the first place and have done all your costings properlly.

The real benifit in importing your self, is for Big Bore ikes, (ie Lots of dollars here) European stuff and Hogs

I have nothing to do with 600cc and under
