'Back in the day' Maori would carve into the skin to give their Moko more definition. This often resulted in your head being more valuable to opposing tribes and once decapitated from the body it was sometimes traded.

I've got a nice carving on my arm. It was supposed to say GSXR but the bike couldn't spell and the asphalt was a bit clumsy.
