Modifying a scoot to look... well, Mad.

I played around with my GN250, made that look a little cooler than the average GN, and now I want to do it with a scooter, except on a more radical scale.

I want to strip it back to bare frame and... well ok, just look at these mad scoots from the UK.
That's what I want to do.

The question is: Mopeds don't need to be Wof'd, but if you modify them from the original factory specs do they need to be re-certified by a LV vehicle certifier?
I do not intend to derestrict or even touch the engine. I'm not going to weld anything either. Just bolt bits on, add a new fuel tank and seat, etc.

Everyone has their own tastes, eh? i wonder if you put the engine further up under the seat to hide it more?

It's still ghey, though, right? The scoot, that is.

Got riled up by a stupid scooter rider in town today. Sure it was no one on here, but that dude needed a smackin'! There I said it. I feel better. Carry on, Steam.

Note to self - Steam takes awhile to let off a little Steam

You planning on moving Auckers Steamy? There'll be no blowing Steam from where I'm sitting... You'd let off a bit of Steam...

I don't think you'd need to get anything certified, if you've not touched the motor or braking systems...regardless of that though there's plenty of warmed up scoots around with only the engine casings standard and aftermarket disc brakes etc, doing fine just flying under the radar.

At least one of those photos must be from the famous Hardly Rideable club (motto: Cut it down, paint it black) but anything the poms can do...this one resides in Auckland.

Completely forgot to ask, what scooter are you starting with?

Thanks MisterD, yep, the pictures are from the Hardly Rideables, they look like a fun bunch of guys. The scooter I'll be starting with has not been chosen yet, but it will be an asian cheapie off trademe for less than a thousand dollars.
The project may not happen, but then again it may well go ahead next week, I'll see where my mood carries me.

Saw your GN in Wellington a month or so ago outside one of the bike shops when I was on a course in taranaki st. Looked even better in the flesh than the pictures. Well done.

It still needs to be up to warrantable condition. You cant touch the frmae on a vespa at all since its monocot or what ever with out a repair cert.
