    Another Christmas weekend loss

If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

No loss to me. I knew this guy before he became famous.

His so called honesty(it was common knowledge that he had taken steroids) was nothing more than an attempt to clear his conscience for cheating. This 'robbed' the real gold medal winner of a gold medal. He should have been stripped of his medal and an adjustment made so that those that deserved them...........won them.

May is just another reason I'm not a Christian, I don't want to be any where near this guy for one day let alone eternity.

I agree....so much for being a committed Christian. Okay we all sin and whether you agree or not we pray for forgiveness, however, for me it is just a case of waivering or distraction from time to time, often not realising at time which is fine, however, this guy knowingly cheated for personal gain which Christian or not jist ain't on eh .

The sad thing is that people like this give good Christians (another debate!!) a bad name..we ain't all that bad but respect for how you feel and it only takes a few to knock us down eh.

Err guys, he wasn't cheating. Steroids were not only legal at the time he was lifting, they were standard practice. There were a range of banned drugs, but anabolic steroids weren't one of them.

Just so you can both feel morally superior he's probably died from Steroid abuse complications, like an enlarged heart.

Opinions are great aren't they?......heres mine. I dont think he would have been the only one (lifter) that used steriods back then, he won the gold medal on the day, Tony Ebert/Phillip Sue and others...Precious McKenzie?
Not saying they all took steriods but, how the hell did McKenkzie get those thigh muscles? Graeme May offerd his medal back,( unlike Ali who threw his away and was given one back years later)...and the offer was declined, that speaks volumes to me in that...the Commonwealth board at the time new that the taking of steriods was 'one of those things ' then.....

Yes he was and did. Why else the confession?

I don't pretend to be 'moraly' superior, it's just I have never been a bully. Use to run into this guy at parties. He was a big guy even back then. Saw him whack a guy who had his back turned to him. He was a gatecrasher looking for trouble.

I repeat: he wasn't cheating, anabolic steroids were not banned in 1974.

You can argue the point as much as you want.

He "confessed" because performance enhancing drugs did not sit well with his moral viewpoint. He did nothing wrong but his attitude has contributed to attempting to ban performance enhancing drugs in sport, or at the least, pointing out their dubious contribution to sport.

You did take a morally superior attitude, attributing poor decision making based on a moral code to Mr May. He in fact was a much bigger man than that, morally as well as physically, choosing to quit at his peak to follow his conscience, a conscience that most sports people are completely bereft of.

Maha man - ALL weightlifters took steroids. They were legal and you couldn't compete at that level if you didn't, much the same as bodybuilding in the 60s and 70s.

I remember him as the "face" of the Austin Maxi. Remember those?
