Normally I fricking hate TV and bitch and moan every month i pay the telstra bill for cable but occasionally I gets lucky. Tonight I was really lucky.
Rialto had a docco on the life of Townes van Zandt a man that wrote beautiful songs and drank them away - sad.
However, as much as I didn't like his signing much I bloody love his songs and the high drama of his life, good to see his friend Guy Clarke in there too (also worth checking out)
Anyways - if you want a treat track down the tribute album, 'Poet' as it has some great versions of some of his best work but why didn't they get Emmy Lou or Willie Nelson to do 'Poncho and Lefty'??
It's the song that spoke to me about the road - sad....
Living on the road my friend,
Was gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron,
Your breath as hard as kerosene.
You weren’t your mama’s only boy,
But her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye,
And sank into your dreams.
