Post Where are all the South Island police this holiday period?

I feel rather sorry for the boys in blue, they must be stretched really thin and be seriously short on man power (nothing new I guess). I've driven from Lower Hutt/Welington ---> Picton (via the ferry obviously) ---> Blenheim ---> Kaikoura ---> Christchurch ---> to Hokitika (Via Arthurs Pass) ---> Franz Josef Glaciers ---> Fox Glaciers ---> Haast ---> Wanaka (via Haast Pass) ---> Queenstown ---> Te Anau ---> Invercargill ---> Balclutha ---> Dunedin ---> Timaru ---> Christchurch, a total of about 2100 kms (+/-) and I've only seen 2 cops now, both driving in cars in the opposite direction (both were checking speed mind you).

Other than that, no speed traps, drink/drive vans or random vehicle/driver checks (rodney king style)... Seems we (i.e you) should complain less and appreciate the effort a little more... Unless they've all migrated North for the summer (are cops a migratory species?)

I've decided to give you guys a heads up:
Tomorrow morning I'll be around Christchurch for a little while, then I'm heading to Blenheim late morning/early arvo staying there the night. Leaving for Collingwood the following day (27 Dec) shortly after 10:00am and staying the night there. Finally, heading back to Blenheim on 28 Dec to stay the night, followed by leaving Blenheim for home at/after 10am on Dec 29th, catching the ferry and back to Lower Hutt...

I reckon it's a little fairer now? I'm in a silver falcon (may appear blurry), with tinted windows (legal 35% fronts btw!). Catch me if you can

[PT - These are true travel times, but I don't actually speed, seriously]

Must be up here gearing up for New Years at the Mount.
I saw three in the 12km between work and home on Friday evening - one even followed me for about 2km before loosing interest.

Santa chose to keep my radar detector for another year ('cause I'm always a good boy, so that can't be the reason ) so can only assume I was being speed checked.

To tell the truth, I did see another one in "Riviera of the South", he was just like I've found all cops (who I've met) to be, a bloody good bloke. He did give me something before I went on my way though

I think they've all congregated on Alexandra for the holidays.

    Pretty much what Jantar said.

The poor police are supervising the pissheads at the Central lakes. Babysitting them to make sure they don't burn cars etc, like they did last year.

My average open road speed is healthy during these times. Probably good that I don't have 1000cc's.

Speaking of which, we're considering our options for riding south New Years Eve daytime ... wondered about Highway 22. It looks like a great bike road and since we are heading fro aumaranui, a good way to go

Somebody said that it wasn't worth ussing this road because of the cops,

There are SO many cops around here... in about half an hour of local/rural riding up north ways I'll see about 2 in half an hour and more if I'm heading south... sometimes up to four or five! Esp. Desert Rd way

Just because you didn't see them doesn't mean they weren't there. The most successful hunters are the ones you don't see.
