Beer ads used to be clever, apart from a few for db bitter where the guys put out bushfires and stuff and the drinking blokes in heaven make the yuppies beer glass handle fall off, they seem to be aimed at morons.
I especially hate the lion red add with the two guys playing tennis. I dont believe i am an old fart, i'm only 34 but seriously, do those ads appeal to anyone?
The export gold add seems especially desperate. Bunch of guys hijack a bus and go round having a great time while paragliding from the back of a bus using an old tent???
Perhaps i have become an old fart, i just dont remember these sort of things annoying me before now. But come on, who selects the brand of beer they drink based solely on the taste and not the advertising? I would be interested to know if watching a guy paragliding from the back of a bus in an old tent makes you want to buy export gold, or watching a couple of guys who come across as just complete jerks fart arsing around on a tennis court make you buy lion red.

I myself am not at all influenced by advertising but Coke is in fact the real thing.

Well I'm an idiot coz if it didn't taste like weazel piss, I'd drink Lion red on the back of that ad you speak of.

Good to see everyone chooses beer on taste these days,me too - but back in the days of continuous fermentation (do any still do it?) I bet the differences between begining and end would be quite marked, but the drinkers would defend a favorite beer to the end.To me the old Lion Red truely tasted like a tom cat pissed in it,but not these days....and my taste hasn't changed, but I still won't drink it.

They gave up advertising. everybody knows its weasel piss.

Southern beers seem to be better. MACS, Speights, Monteiths.
As long as its not DB, I'll drink it.

It's actually changed a lot from what it used to be like, when it was like fermented Waikato River water.

Do you not get the chainsaw ads? The first one a logger turned up early to the pub, no one else their, so he calls them with his chainsaw.
The second one, the pub owner goes out the back & jingles a crate of bottles, the lad chainsaw in their orders & then get them delivered when they arrive.
Some of the Waikato billboards are good, the one of the sink taps "H, C, W" on the top & something about winning Lotto. And the north end of Huntly usually has a good one too.

I wouldnt usually drink any NZ beers unless there was no alternative. In that case it'd prob be heinekin. Dont mind a bit of the monteiths celtic red/radler/summer either, but only in emergencies.

Usually you'd find me in a bottle of Kronenbourg, oranjeboom, hoegaarden, bravara or crown lager.

...thats if im not drinking the usual vodka anyway...

Yep. The Tui billboards in Akl around xmas last year said "Lets go to Palmy for New Years". The same billboard in downtown Palmy had "Lets go to Auckland for New Years". (we were on a road trip )
