    Auckland traffic...

Pointless post I know but I just have to vent... Had such a stressful morning. Went to the airport (in cage) at 6:30 to collect Mrs L and older son arriving from L.A. Normally would expect them to be processed within an hour - plenty of time to get to work for start of first period (8:30). Still waiting for them to come through at 10 to 8. Made a decision to call younger son to come to airport in other car as I couldn't wait any longer. Thought I could get home (Onehunga), jump on bike and be in town by 8:30. Bloody airport motorway... stop start, stop start...
Arrived at work 3 minutes late. Coming in by car it would have been 20 minutes.
Blood pressure 180/95 at a rough guess.

Reason for delay at airport: bags left behind in L.A.

And I had such a lovely weekend...

    That sounds thoroughly awful.

In that situation, particularly when the familial arrivees only had to get to Onehunga, I'd be inclined to get them to take a taxi.

Auckland Co-op take credit cards now, you know.

Eh? Uncaring? Moi? I'm thinking of MikeL's psychological wellbeing here, you know.

And a taxi from the airport to Onehunga wouldn't set you back more than $15 or so, surely.

you COULD always go out to meet them on the bike... and say 'HI! Great to see you... follow me, the taxi's out here, cause I need to go to work now"

    Taxi? What's that...?

As it happens, I had originally delegated no. 2 son to do the airport collection bit as the plane was scheduled to arrive just before 7 and I felt this would make it marginal for me to get to work on time. Checked on-line late last night and found that the plane would be half an hour early. Besides, I felt sorry for no 2 son who, being of the younger generation unused to hardships of any kind, finds it really hard to get up on these crisp, invigorating mornings. (I had to hose down the car to remove the ice...)

But all is now well with the world. Several bottles of duty free booze were duly handed over.

You'd think so... but it cost me about 30 bucks last time I did the Onehunga-airport trip
