On the news tonight it was stated that the december temperature in the main centers was the coldest for over 50 years.

But southern folk needn't be too worried, Dunedin is moving the temperature recoding from Musellborough to the Octagon, so average temperatures in Dunedin should show a rise of around 2 degrees from now on.

However this new data will be added in to world averages to show that the average global temperature is continuing to rise. Similar things have happened in the past all over the world as people like to show that their city is warmer than another one, so of course land based temperature records can only increase.

That's great news mate, You will be harder for me to recognise next time we meet then due to your darker tan. Will that also give you a milder winter because it can get bloody cold down your way?

The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned on the global warming debate. We have had the driest winter on record here, but I'm still not convinced.

Not quite. One posiibility is that an increasing amount of fresh water entering the North Atlantic will either slow the Gulf Stream current , or move it further south. Either event would cause Europe to enter a mini ice age as happened after the 13th - 15th centuries medieval warm period and precipiting the little ice age of the 16th - 18th centuries. Unfortunately the Global warming models all say these events didn't happen.

The polar caps are slowly melting which unbalances the planet. We are slowly ending up in a kind of gigantic human-turd-and-tonic “on the ice”. In addition, the melting makes the planet slowly wobble around until we end up where the polar icecaps are and the icecaps end up at about the same latitude as Elbonia (or there abouts). That makes it nice and toasty for penguins but not so good for us.

And what about the bird flu eh?

I think global warming due to carbon emmisions is a load of bull anyways. Im not convinced, it may be ignorance but either way im not losing sleep over it. Part of me thinks its just a new way for marketing gurus to cream more money out of us, Oh yes I will glady pay an extra 3000 to get a green car so I can feel im doing my bit to stop global warming.

OK... here's the definitive argument about the "nonsense" that is global warming, ozone depletion, and farting. It also has long range weather forecasts (predictions) all based on lunar phases.

It is an interesting read though. Check it out here:

A very interesting read. The author comes up with the right conclusions, possibly correct predictions, and all from some wrong assumptions.
