A good way to help Inline Four

A lot of people have expressed their desire to help Inline Four (John). I have had a think about this and a good way to not only help him but all Kiwibikers (and the rest of the population) is to:

GIVE BLOOD

okay you may be scared of needles BUT you can get a local anaesthestic prior to giving, if you really need it and you can look the other way so you don't see it going in

We have about 3 1/2 litres of blood in our bodies at any one time. John needed 8 units of blood over his time in ICU so that was 8 people who gave up their time and energy to help him. Without that blood he woulod have died (I kid you not!)

So be brave - find your local blood bank and donate. I would if I could but I lived too long in England and they are scared I will give people "Mad Cows Disease"

You can give 3-monthly, 6-monthly or even annually

Good idea.

Just make sure you aren't diabetic, or homosexual or an intravenous drug user. Or have had unprotected sex with the latter two. It's still okay to have sex with diabetics.

...or from the UK, they don't want blood infected with Mad Cows Disease either

I think it's once every three months. If you make it a recurring thing, the blood bank will call you and say it's time to come in - hell, they even come to collect you!

It's a great cause tho - I do it every few months myself.

Same here, I used to donate in England but there's always the possibility of giving someone English disease. They might start whining incessantly or be suddenly unable to run a railway on time. I'm AB- too.

I started donating about 2 yrs ago - they used to set up in my building, and it got me out of work for 30 mins!

Now I've changed jobs and they aren't in my building any more, but I seek them out every 12 weeks when they send me the postcard to tell me where they are going to be.

I don't like needles much, but it really is quite painless, especially with the experienced nurses (? phlembotonists?) doing it.

Get out there and give it a go!

I have to prepare myself for giving blood - drink truckloads of water and eat an hour before I go. It took me a few attempts to figure out what was comfortable and how to avoid fainting! Bloody embarrassing when it happens in front of a group of workmates

Finding a vein isn't a problem, but my blood is tempermental and likes to stop frequently - the only way to stop me blacking out is to lie with my feet above my head.

I fall into one of the above categories where I cant ....

Coaster - you are correct thou...... more blood is needed......
so more donors that can, the better.
