Derestricting

hi again

i finally have my street magic...i love it...its awesome...but i can see im going to want it to go 5-10km faster sooner or later...so i've been reading about derestricting scooters and i was hoping someone could explain where i would go to get my bike derestricted. im aware of Scootling having parts that are needed, but do they derestrict bikes themselves or would i have to take it to another bike shop and just buy parts from Scootling...? also is there a bike shop in Auckland that is particularly good with street magic's just in terms of having a service and maintenance check, and being taken seriously...?

awe one other thing...theres a random high pitched vibration noise that happens sometimes when im going over 40km and accelerating, its kinda annoying, does anyone have any ideas what this might be related to...? it had a service and maintenance check and nothing came up...so im a bit stumped by it

Scootling will probably be able to do the work for you. I think the main man there is Andreas, but anyway they race their Jappa scoots at Mt Welly so they know what they're about.

Dunno about your vibration problem, but a good first check would be the condition of the variator rollers, all kinds of strange stuff can happen when they get flat spots on.

The speed limiter is programmed into the CDI unit on most but not all scooters. Buying an aftermarket CDI will remove the speed limiter. But more simply, you can derestrict it by cutting one of the wires which will allow the belt to move along to the end of the cone instead of stopping 3/4 of the way through... You'll have to find someone who has done it to a similar scooter to ask them which wire to cut.
