    Stupid mistake with fuel tank.

My fuel tank had a small leak so I decided to find the leak and fix it. I removed the tank from the bike, set the tank up on a stand, filled the tank with water and waited. Aha! that revealed where the leak was! BUT I failed to make sure the tank was completely dry and left it overnight. In the morning I woke to see...

    RUST!

    Silly of me I know.

Is it alright to use the bike as normal even though there's a bit of rust in the tank?

Chuck some stones in there and shake away. then slosh some petrol through.

It'll also reveal if there are any other holes that need fixing

    Um.....

    Have you 'fixed' the leak?

Go to supercheap and get come rust converter (phosphoric acid) and use as directed (slosh about inside keeping all surfaces wet bunging up all holes etc for an hour or so i think) and all sorted...

If you have NOT fixed the leak...

get a POR15 kit do the above plus use the sealer and no swaet..... (um or sweat)

Definitly get the rust sorted, had some probs on my GSXR which caused a few headaches until I fixed it. Used a POR15 fuel tank treatment which was bloody good, tho about 50 or 60 bucks.

Not good if rust gets sucked thru the engine.

If you do not want to use rust converter, drop in nuts & bolts rather than stones. You can fish them out easily using a magnet.
