4 days not on a bike

Went up north for a short break.

Took 3 of my rifles with me and my pistols. Spent 2 days sighting them all in

.44 mags are spot on at 50m

.22 rifle is shooting 4 inches low at 100m I can live with that.

.223 is getting 1" groups at 100m. Good enough till I can play with the reloads again.

M1 carbine was all over the place. Took acouple of hours (not spotting scope) and I had it printing a 2" group at 100 meters.

Once sighted in I was invited on a pleasant evenings hunt.

5km hike into the back hills of the Kaipara. Thick gorse, bramble and cutty grass.

Finally spotted a mob of wild goats.

Half an hours stalking and within range.

5 shots and 5 less goats in the wild. Dressed the young nannys and backpacked the two carcasses out. Bloody hard trudge back through the gorse. Got back to the farm hot, thirsty, tired and physically knackered.

A nice 10k walk in the hills with enough meat in the freezer for a few weeks.

    Very pleased with the 223.

5 shots and 5 clean quick kills. My hunting partner had 20 shots to take 11 goats.

    My fitness is slowly returning.

Well done, sounds like a good little .223. You never know, your hunting partner might just be a crappy shot (pt)

    Sweet, sounds fun.

Leave the guns at home and take a knife and stick some pigs next time...

You'll struggle to get the M1 a whole lot better than that!!!!!.

Me? I just shot slew of hares, great meat on the back-steaks and hind legs,
serve it up as venison and most would not know the difference.

Uh-uh, I shoot and eat both and I could serve up hare and you really would be struggling to pick it apart.

PS: More like fallow than red.

I've eaten both, prefer rabbit to hare but thats by-the-by, Have eaten Red, Sika, WhiteTail, but never fallow so I may have to cede on that one, but on the others I stand firm

Not fit enough to keepup with the dogs yet.

Next step will be off after deer somewhere.

5 years ago I was struggling to learn to walk again after a botched operation.

Now I can hunt some reasonably hard terrain for goats.

    I'm getting there slowly.

    Eat it.

    Dogs have whats left.

Leg of goat slow roasted, mmmmmmm

Whole goat on a spit over a fire. Mmmmmmmm

Getting back to real food not this processed shit that is dubious whether or not it actually contains meat.
