WANTED: A selection of race bikes.

I am looking for a race bike to use on test days and in competition later on. I'd preferably like it to be under $5000 as that is really stretching my budget. And if I'm to be really picky, between 400 and 600cc.

If anyone's seen any floating about, could you post them on here please?

He's just raced on it at Wanganui. Definitely the cheaper end of the price range, while still being a pretty crazy start for a noob racer.

Perfect bike for starting track days and racing on is the CBR250RR in my opinion. Streetstock IS the perfect beginner class, and this is the kind of bike that you can win it on. I've got one for sale at the moment. However the AMCC don't run a streetstock racing series. Only the other clubs like PMCC and VMCC run streetstock 250's. So you have to go to Taupo or Manfeild for racing these. It's probably for the best anyway, cause Pukekohe is a little boring on the 250, cause it doesn't have a phenominal top speed, but it teaches you a crap load about corner speed.

I see your 19 years old and your last bike was an ER5. What has made you want to get into bike riding around racetracks?

One thing I would consider in your budget is the cost of testdays. This time of year its $100 each day. Also have you got all you safety gear like back protector, full leather suit etc.

Its alot cheaper to go to Trackdays on a road legal bike as they are alot cheaper entry usually and you'll get just as much tracktime as on a testday and get to ride with more similar bikes. Local Manfeild testdays usually only have about half a dozen bikes turn up. I've been to testday where I was the only bike and other where there were none.

I know I'm just 19 but I would like to start racing and you've gotta start somewhere. I have just enough money for a road bike and a track bike, so I thought getting two would be a safer bet than risking binning my only form of road transport on the track.

I have all the gear, well... except the back protector but I can pick one of those up. I got the ER-5 because it was too good an offer to turn down, though I disliked the inability to flick it through the corners. Before that I had a little RS50 and it was the best thing since sliced bread, other than the lack of power.

If I hadn't moved to NZ, I would have started racing in the UK, and came close to sending off for my licence.

I had considered getting a road bike and doing trackdays but if I see a cheapish race bike I can use instead, I would rather do that.

Nothing wrong with an ER5. Theres a guy been racing an ER6 in F3 for a while now and its pretty competitive. Compared to an Aprilia 50 they aren't that nimble but they'd be more nimble than an SV650.

19 is not a bad age to start. I'm in my fortys and had my first ride on a track at Frostys first trackday a couple of years ago. Most of the young guns like Hayden Fitzgerald and Sam Smith seem to have started racing when they were in nappys.
