Uploading to www from Dreamweaver?

Just a bit of help needed with my website. Ive got my FTP server thingy set up in dreamweaver, no how the hell do I get my homepage up?

Highlight the file you wish to upload push the blue or green arrows above the file list...

Blue to upload green to download... remember to upload any images (dreamweaver should ask ifyou need to) you only need to do that once
or the click the greeen and blue arrow on the tool bar, this will up load the loaded file.

It was doing silly things, working now. How do I get the site to re-route www.example.org to www.example.org/home.html ?

index.htm or index.html should be your default page so when someone types in your domain name the default page will load automatically. all you should need to do is upload it.

Its www.youbethejudge.org it has a placeholder... got pages on index.html and home.html but no joy.

on the server is the a folder called something like

/public_html/ if there is you need to upload to this fold and use this as your server root folder

Heres where it's at. Index.html has been saved in the www folder but I still have a placeholder @ www.youbethejudge.org

Rather than reinvent the wheel you might just want to use some free existing templates. Better still, have a look at some of the content management (joombla) or blogging (wordpress) software out there.

If you're doing lots of ftp transfers from a Win client then www.smartftp.com isn't a bad choice.

Just be aware the using and PHP/MySQL you are more open to be hacked (and my site has been hacked many times just because they can) where as straight HTML less likely

If you do use the CMS that are out there make sure you keep it up to date as each version should cover any security holes found.

Yeah, the T&C's of one of my hosts is that I MUST apply patches (the host sends emails alerting) to the php sites. On other hosts I don't bother. Just regularly back up the site and DB and then if the site gets hacked restore it then apply patches. There's just not enough hours in the day to keep them all up to date.

Of course, high traffic sites would be a different matter.

YEs I cant comment enough on back ups... its safed my arse many a times...
