If it were me, I would install the drivers from the iPod disc, along with the iPod updater. You may or may not be able to that without installing iTunes for the duration of those tasks, you would have to try to be sure.

Once it has been 'setup' (formatted, updated etc), then you just drag n drop in winamp.

iTunes works perfectly well on a Mac. Dont need to use it in HDD mode...iTunes sorts all the music for me already.

I read somewhere recently that Apple don't even own the rights to use the "iPhone" name, as it officially belongs to some other crowd, who aren't giving it up easily.

Not that that actually refers to any feature or function of the iPhone, I just wanted to be part of the discussion is all....

If you are geek minded, or have more than a passing interest in Scientific stuff, I found this website to be the best there is for bringing all the info on the many major Science and tech websites together, with excellent little "summary" mouse-overs on each topic heading.
I understand very little of it, but it is broadening my knowledge, and some of it is downright fascinating.

Yep, linked twice here. Cisco own the iPhone trademark, have done for 7 odd years, and are now sueing Apple.

Ok, compiling said software is going to ages on something like that.

I, for one, welcome our Apple iPhone overlord.
    sorry but no.
I'd rather have one of these

Moreover, Mr. Jobs also appears to be restricting the potential for third-party software developers to write applications for the new handset — from ringtones to word processors.

    ....

“We define everything that is on the phone,” he said. “You don’t want your phone to be like a PC. The last thing you want is to have loaded three apps on your phone and then you go to make a call and it doesn’t work anymore. These are more like iPods than they are like computers.”

Didn't a kiwi guy set up a company to onsell the "sim card adjuster thing".... technical term ...... from some Eastern block country that allows you to unlock the iPhone....

From the sounds of the report on TV the other night, NZers would be better off duct-taping their iPod and their existing mobile phone together. Et voila.....an instant "iPhone" that actually makes calls...LOL

I've got it going already .. took me about 20 minutes.

Requires windows, iTunes, and a little bravery

There is a dude in CHCH that does Turbo Sim cards, but I choose to go the software hack way.
Edge doesn't work (of course), but gprs data does.
