It was great to have you on the ride, and it was me that noticed you almost jump off the road... was a right-hand corner, and you got slightly too close for comfort to the edge of the road, but I think most people do that at some stage in their life (I know I have...)

averagely fast and mildly aggressive means: go fast when you want to, go slow when you want to (go at your own pace), and mildly aggressive: I've only found one way to get scrubbing done on tyres..... and that's by mildly throwing the bike into corners... must admit I definitely enjoy day-light rides a lot better, especially when they have 40km's of gravel in them

Yeah, I've been working on my cornering lately, since I have been getting into bad habits of not putting the theory I know into practice. I have to agree about daylight, though; I much prefer to be able to see the vanishing point of a corner.

I'm getting my new Avon Storms fitted tomorrow afternoon, but once they're done, unless a certain cheque clears, I will have about $3 in my bank account. So it's unlikely I'll be coming tomorrow evening, as I won't be able to pay for petrol. Annoying since I would have liked to scrub in the new tires. Next week though.

Trip meter shows 178k's Was a good outing for them that turned up!!
Good spot for a feed, a return trip in the future would not be out of the question.
And the rest of you guys how bout thinking of possible route / destinations.

Points to think about now that the whole ride is in darkness.
Route - As little as possible on main state h/ways.
Gravel - Yes Rob.. but not too much.
Food/refreshments - Think about a possible pub either where we get to, or on the way back before we hit hams. If you make it into the city limits people just cant be bothered and head home!

Thought on a destination. Okoroire, Someone figure out how to get there off the main roads

    It turns out..

I just couldn't keep up.. I enjoyed the ride though. If there were any drawbacks it was that it was difficult to deal with those roads at night and at the speeds the group was going. Too many close calls for me.

    Cheers for the ride.

sorry to hear that you couldn't keep up... we'll give you the excuse that you had the smallest bike there... the ride back was nice... sitting at 140km/h Ben (the guy on the GS500) has decided he doesn't like night-riding at 'our sort of speeds', and that if ever comes on another night ride again, 100km/h will be his speedlimit... haha, what exactly are you gonna do at 100km/h? The guy on the RGV250 says he might be keen for more rides in the future, so Carver, if we organize another Sunday afternoon ride, he might come along, although Ben said he isn't keen for gravel, which means he'll have to find other bikers to hang out with... kinda like that Harley rider on Kahikatea Drive... I was thinking of chasing him for fun like you and Ben did, but I wanted to go to the toilet...

Awards for you guys that know your limits. Draw a line on what speed you are happy to go and dont feel you need to stick with the group. Would be a darn good idea to just head out before them that feel the need. The last 2 night rides we had a pretty good idea on intended destination so if you get there first, well done. If the rest of the pack get past you well be stopping to let you catch up

Red face Thanks for the excuse

Would there be any more suitable rides for people like Ben and myself?
