I popped into Levin this morning to check my mailbox and on the way home (in the car) I had a bike right up my rear end. I could see him no problem, he wasn't in my blind spot, he was right in the centre but about a bike length behind me all the way through the town centre. There was heaps of traffic and cars backing out of parking spaces so there was no way I was going to pull further to the left to let him pass. As I approached the Mobil service station at the north end of town a car turned in front of me - towing a bloody trailer - so I had to brake. How the biker avoided running into me I have no idea as he had no escape route. I got to the 70kph zone and expected him to overtake then (I was stuck behind a diesel van at that stage) but he didn't, preferring my rear bumper all the way to the motel a few ks into the 100kph zone. Then he decided it was time to overtake - on a blind corner, with yellow lines and in the path of an oncoming car! He overtook me, the van and the car in front of it, narrowly avoiding ending up a hood ornament on the oncoming car, which had to move to the left.
Absolute tosser. Didn't catch the rego or exactly what bike it was, but if anyone knows of a fat rider heading north through Levin at about 11.30am today, on a late model naked red bike with one of the modern oval headlights, wearing black and red gear with a black helmet, tell him from me he needs to wake up his ideas and treat others on the road with a bit of respect. I can imagine if he had run up the rear of my car, it would have been my fault, not his! I got around the corner to find him braking frantically as he came up behind a stream of cars and trucks with no overtaking room.
